not quite a road, but close enough...

Just visited this new services this morning:

Services themselves. great, seemed plenty of choices for food etc.

However, roads, access, exit arrangements - complete dogs breakfast!

Some very tight turns, traffic entering and exiting cross paths so hold each other up and signage can't be great as a Polish truck ended up in the car car-park and clearly not sure how he got there or where to go!

I know you should never start a statement 'but surely...' But surely it can't be that difficult to design the layout of a service station to avoid sharp turns and crossing traffic!?

passed it alot as they were building it. have to agree, from the m25 itself, the road design in and out looked poor, especially the slip road on the entrance on the clockwise side.
have to be honest though, do think the xtra services group are the pick of the bunch.

I drive past it every day on my way to and from work, was so glad when they lifted the 50mph road works.

Was wierd in a way, just drove past it one day and it was open, sort of expected a date to have been shown. I'm trying not to go in, the fact that it has Greggs is very tempting on the way to work...

A very welcome addition to the western M25. I have had to come off several times in the hunt for fuel over the years! My regular jaunts to see family/ friends in North of England from home in South Surrey will be fuelled here, and the Shell petrol station, with its Vpower will satisfy the cars..will be testing it out next week on trip to Teeside...

..now just need the powers that be to do something about the terrible concrete road going through most of that south-western section and I will be a happy traveller!..@notholdingmybreathonthatone

Most services road layout's are pants for hgv's .
So many on exit the hgv's have to give way to traffic from the left from the near side blind spot.

Its the biggest service station in the UK apparently... it would take a week to fill the storage tanks with petrol (not sure how they worked that out!)

I've heard its quite expensive but then again aren't all service stations?

It has always baffled me why people fill up at the ridiculously overpriced motorway services pumps. My chariot's ECU map demands 99RON. For the last 6 years I have always managed to plan my journeys so that I don't have to pay their robber baron prices.

80% of their business is fuel card custom, so on that basis these custmers dont give a hoot what they pay!! Thats why i fill up at my village independant who charges £1.57 a litre for Diesel, slap that on the fuel card any day!!

Good point but billzeebub, to whom I was responding, wasn't talking about a business trip. Why anyone paying for their own consumption would choose to fill up at a motorway services makes no sense to me. It's a logical as setting fire to a £5 note.

Correct.
I have a fuel card and fill up when the fumes run out at the nearest station.

The position of that on the M25 is perfect for me too. smile

I could never figure out why cars getting off the ferries at Dover stopped to fill up at the filling station by the terminal (now closed) when they could done so far cheaper in France.

Because time is money. I will try and avoid filling up on a motorway, but on occasions, it just happens and I certainly will not go out of my way to avoid...

Because in France, you're rushing to make the ferry boarding time. Stop for petrol and you miss the boat.

It took four tankers worth, each tanker took about an hour (from memory) to unload. (it also had a smaller adblue tanker?)
