Plato Gets Chopper For 2011

BTCC champ looks to defend his 2010 title with the help of rotor blades (but not in the races)

If there's one thing you need to help defend your BTCC title, it's a helicopter. Fortunately that's exactly what touring car legend and friend of PH (see picture for proof) Jason Plato has been given for the 2011 season,

Plato has joined forces with aircraft management, charter and sales specialists, Global Flight Solutions, based in Biggin Hill, who will fly Jason to all UK race venues for the BTCC season this year (in return for the GFS logo as a permanent fixture on both Jason's crash helmet and race overalls, naturally!). It must help that Plato and the CEO of GFS are old friends from being race instructors at Silverstone together. Must be nice having a friend that runs a helicopter company...

"After a successful weekend racing, all I want to do is get home quickly to see my 3 girls, actually the same applies if the weekend has not been too good either! There is no better way to travel than by helicopter and I'm proud to be associated with GFS. 2011 is going to be a great year" says Jason.

Plato is set to defend his crown using the same Silverline Chevrolet Cruze with which he won last year's title, saying: "I am very excited and confident as the car I am driving is a development of the car that won the 2010 World Touring Car Championship with RML, we are in for a fantastic season".

We look forward to seeing the Chopper-backed Chevy in action this weekend at Brands Hatch...

That's the the worst "I've got a new chopper" thread ever.

Whoever Mr Plato's PR people might be, they need to get a better ego filter on their press releases.

If I was married to Mrs Plato I would want to get home as quickly as possible too - she is rather lovely!

I think he's like one of those 'gifted' kids. He can drive like a genius but can't work out that you don't need to flip the lid off a tin of custard in order to take a photo of the outside of the tin.

At least PH know what to make his trophy out of if he wins this season.

He'd get it cleaned but keeps being bothered outside the dry cleaners by some weirdo who just stares at the floor.

Given the average life span of helicopter-borne motor-racing stars, how long do you give him?

Given his driving style, I reckon 30 seconds after he takes the controls...

If youre going to have sponsorship, it might as well be something with a practical benefit. For me it would be a toss-up between this, Beechdean Icecream and Playboy.

I reckon JP has been a bloody good sport on PH. Although I still cant look at that Custard pic and not see this:

Can anyone 'shop a tin of birds onto that?

However much I like that bloke, I can't escape the fact that his head is far too large for the rest of him.
I can't seem to focus on anything else.
