Someone I work with races in a 'series' where you pay a licence fee at the beginning of the year and from there on in you can enter as many or as little of the races as you want.
(This to be exact: http://www.national-autograss.co.uk/)

I was wondering are there other series run in this way where you pay one fee and only race when you want?

(Apologies if this belongs in the Motorsport forum)

Almost all racing works like that.

You pay a membership fee to join the club and then just pay a race fee as and when.

If it is a race series, it doesn't matter if you miss one or two because a series is (officially) a collection of races with no overall winner - just a winner of each race.

If it is a championship, it does matter more if you miss races because you get points which not only allow you to have race winners but an overall winner also.

(The MSA will lead you to believe there is an all be it subtle difference).

The only thing I can think of that is a little different to this is the Caterham Acadamy for which you pay £xx,xxx and you get the car and all your race entry fees.

Oh, some clubs do allow you to buy the whole lot in one go and offer discounts (I've heard of up to 25% so if you don't have a problem with cash flow, it can be good news).

Hope that helps!

Cheers

i think what MGB boy is getting at is that you pay a flat fee and you dont pay to turn up and race individual races. The more you do, the cheaper it is.

I think the HGPCA do something very similar, with hospitality at events and your joining fee includes race overalls. Of course it's hobby racing for (wealthy) Gentlemen, where some of the grid is worth a few bob.
