Honesly it makes the likes of Bahrain and Valencia etc look like sterile Scalextric..
I know safety is important etc but does 50 years of progress mean racing needs to lose its soul?
The equivalent in Rallying would be to cut down all the trees. Personally i wouldn't miss a China GP

I totally agree about the new Tilke tracks. Sterile, featureless, bland nothings. No soul, no history. It's one of the reasons I loved Singapore, it's a tight twisty track, through proper surroundings.
I could easily lose these races immediately:
Malaysia
Bahrain
Spain
Valencia
Shanghai
Turkey only survived because it's actually quite in interesting layout, despite being featureless and soulless.
Looking back to the 1950s especially, the period just seems so rich and interesting, sporting and risky.
I highly recommend a book called "The Last Road Race", an account of the 1957 Pescara GP, the last F1 World Championship to be held on a proper road course of closed public roads on the magnificent 15+ mile track in Italy.

I wouldn't mind seeing the A1 Ring make a comeback, though.

Thanks for the info. That Pescara GP sounds something special.
At the end of the day no-one wants drivers to take unnecessary risk. Progress on Head/Body protection along with reducing risks of fireballs is all to be applauded.
But surely isn't the true spirit of the racer to push the boundaries and rise to the challenge of a demanding circuit?
Its a bit like being a yachtsman in an Ocean race but not going across the Atlantic in case the waves get too high.
Many of these new modern tracks seem to focus on the Corporate 'deal' and cramming people into grandstands rather than the purity / challenge of the circuit and dare i say Racing.
With the modern safety features in cars are some of these historic tracks really too dangerous for a true racer?

They consider not renewing in 2 years time, we pick up 3 new tracks in 2 seasons and you conclude that at this rate there'll be no races left?
can't remember a decent race there. can't remember the track after the first 2 corners - just blends into more tilkerised blandness. but bernie wants to save it cos it attacts VIP's into the paddock club. ignore the fact that the grandstands are empty and no-one in china gives a crap about F1. the opposite is true of canada.
