Let's assume, for the sake of debate, that the FIA worked against Hamilton this year.

Let's assume also that there was nothing personal in this, nor racist & nobody was trying to settle any perceived scores with Ron Dennis or promote a pro-Ferrari agenda.

Why then would the FIA work against Hamilton?

Consider this - in the recnt past a WDC coming from a country with the infrastructure required to hold more than 1 GP has successfully made a claim for staging a 2nd GP, normally termed the European GP. We saw this at Donnington, the Nurbergring & now at Valencia.

This suggests that as Hamilton is British there's a good case for having a 2nd GP in Britain.

The problem of course is that a 2nd GP in Britain wouldn't pay Bernie anything like the cash he seems hell bent on extracting & thus he'd out of pocket.

Thoughts?

Are you saying that Silverstone could hold the normal GP and Donnington hold the 'European GP'?

Interesting Idea, but like you say Bernie must know he would never get the money he wants for it, and the UK govenment in its wisdom is broke and couldnt help it out.

What is the latest news about Donnington?

Brazil don't have another GP standard track, not since they announced the old Jacarepaguá circuit in Rio was going to be demolished for an Olympic training site. So I can't see Brazil pushing for a 2nd GP if their man had won and for that matter we don't have a 2nd GP quality track not until Donington is brought up to standard and I doubt that will ever happen.

I do think it's a little far-fetched, if anything Bernie would want Hamilton to win because of the crowds (money) he'll attract to the sport.

The reason Germany got another GP was that they could fill it easily, because a German was at the front, they weren't given one as part of MS winning the championship.

I think that the reason that Lewis got puniched this year may have something ot do with him breaking the rules? Far fetched I know but...

I think the fact that the 'rules' didn't exist until Lewis 'broke' them rubbishes that theory. I'd suggest that it's more to do with politics between McLaren, the FIA and Ferrari or a fear from Bernie that Lewis will dominate the sport in the years to come.

The world wide increae in profile, marketing and image rights far outweigh any potential loss of circuit revenue associated with Lewis Hamilton.

Bernie had far, far more to gain through Hamilton winning than losing.

i think it was because 'they' didn't want the sport to look easy. I mean, Hammy turns up, comes 2nd in first year and wins in 2nd year.

He also upset the apple cart by showing that a number of established drivers had accepted that it was ok to sit around and wait for pitstops to overtake. LH blew that one away.

I also don't think its because the FIA hate Mclaren, i think its more because they LOVE Ferrari and love all that loving Ferrari comes with.

Exactly, Bernie is far more interested in his buisness, so he'll do everything he can to maximise his return, in this case, take advantage of basically free marketing.

This is like one of the American conspiracy theories - you know, twin towers was a CIA plot, Kennedy was shot by the CIA, men never landed on the moon etc etc.

The only bias I see is the bias of British fans about Hamilton, Spanish fans about Alonso and Brazilian ones about Massa. They all think their guy was cheated. Perhaps with a bit more reason since MacLaren, Hamilton, Moseley and Bernie are all British.

My thoughts are that if Ecclestone doesn't want the UK to have two GPs (for whatever reason), then there won't be two GPs in the UK. How on earth would Ecclestone be forced to have a race he doesn't want?

Because Ferrari bring more money into F1 than anybody else, and are a large part of the reason the sport is so successful, hence the FIA do anything they can to keep them happy.

Or, we could end up in 2010 with a multiple World Champion, and no British GP at all. Which countries has that happened to in the past?

I doubt that losing Ferrari would hurt the sport that much and don't forget the other teams are effectivly "paying" Ferrari. That money they would use elsewhere.
