Graham Hill Documentary on ESPN Classic

My Sky HD box recorded a nice documentary on Sky Anytime yesterday on Graham Hill's life called, "Graham Hill: Driven" It gave a nice insight into the man and made me long for the days when F1 stars were playboys but also the best of friends. It also had some nice footage of the 60's and 70's F1 cars. Graham came across as a great bloke, with a wonderful sense of humour but also someone who expected nothing but the best from his team and cars.

If you get a chance check it out, it made for a nice late night watch.

On another point does anyone know of any other films or docs that hark back to that period of racing that I should look out for apart from Le Mans which I have on DVD. They bring about a bit of light relief after the politics of current F1

ESPN classic quite often show reviews of old G.P's too. Well worth a watch.

That film was made by Mark Stewart's company (son of Jackie). Amongst their other productions is a documentary on his father called "The Flying Scot" that was broadcast on Channel 4.

"Nine Days In Summer" (the launch of the DFV engine) is a short classic, reminds you what a proper racing driver does for a living.

Extremely recommended for Chrimbo is a sub or back-issue set of Motor Films Quarterly

I recorded this some months ago and watched it a few nights ago. I agree it was a very sincere and sensitive story of the man who was my childhood hero. I liked the interviews with his family.

You might want to watch out for "Grand Prix" which was filmed during the 1966 GP season. It starred James Garner and had some nice cameos of the current drivers. IIRC Graham Hill had a msall speaking role.

So was I. There was some filming during the British GP practice in the paddock and I pushed my way to the front in a crowd scene. You can only see me from the chest down but I've got a photograph of me at the GP wearing the same clothes.

But do I ever get a mention in the credits?

The film "Grand Prix" was shot during the 1966 season, not 1967.

The DVD is excellent.
