Farewell Coulthard

The old faithful Coulthard has now retired his racing in F1 - shame he was put out on the 1st lap and on the 1st/2nd corner

A shame but long overdue IMO. It is about time F1 gets an influx of new blodd like MotoGP has the last two seasons.

I'm surprised/amazed he lasted so long, good test driver but never looked like a real winner IMO. Seems like a nice bloke though...

Yah, loved that comment from him - would have been cool to see him do the donuts as well. He didn't give a damn about the possible fine. Good guy, he'll stay around the sport for a good while - either in some advisory/testing type role?

He was the man to beat at McLaren before Hakinen came along and became Ron Dennis's favourite. Frank Williams also made the comment when faced with choosing between Damon Hill and DC that he made the wrong choice.

For me he has always been a gifted but a bit too nice. As the americans say "Nice guys come last"

Tom - if you're going to be picky about people's spelling on here, make sure you get it right. "I" as the first person singular personal pronoun is always capitalised.

Odd definition of mediocre you must have. Getting into F1 at all must put him in the best 0.001% of drivers in the world. Staying there and winning races adds a couple more zeros in there.

Eh? Hakkinen was at McLaren in 1993, DC didn't join until 1996.
