Enquiry into British GP "phenomenon"

FIA president Max Mosley has urged key figures in Formula 1 to pinpoint the reasons why this year's British Grand Prix was so exciting, according to AUTOSPORT magazine this week.
Team bosses are due to meet in the next few weeks to consider major changes, including revised formats and sporting regulations, as F1 looks to ways to improve the show further.
"There was something very interesting going on [at Silverstone] because the cars seemed to be able to overtake and run with grip in places where you would not expect," said Mosley. There weren't any marbles so we're not quite sure why – was it the circuit, was it the surface, was it the new tyres or did the new tyres or did the drivers just experience a massive adrenaline charge.
"We are talking to everybody because, following the race at Magny-Cours, everyone was saying, 'This is terrible' and now all of a sudden that has gone away."
Mosley believes that before any changes are made, F1 needs to consult the general public: "The team bosses have been in the business for 30 years, they're all over 50, they're all multi-millionaires and they never watch it on TV. So they don't really know what is going on. The hundreds of millions of people out there are all different – they are under 50, they are not millionaires but they do watch F1 on TV."
FFS - HOW MANY TIMES DO THEY NEED TO BE TOLD
SAFETY CARS - SAFETY CARS - SAFETY CARS - SAFETY CARS
It worked on CART which is what makes it such a lottery, that a full course yellow and saftey car period allows drivers and teams to make pit stops but not always come out in the same order they go in. So the faster cars often had slower cars in front of them, hence racing and overtaking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really wonder sometimes

yep, exactly what id say, and it is true its all down to the safety car, maybe Max Mosley should employ someone to run onto the track at every race!

Safety Cars - I do agree but what if there is no need for them? What if no one crashes, breaks down etc.
That's when the nutter gets wheeled out
They could have a store of them kept in a big box in Bernies battlewagon just in case a race needs spicing up.
How about Bernie in a kilt??!!
It's not as simple as that - I hope.
In the past we were constantly told that they couldn't overtake (unless there was a massive difference in power or a blue flag) due to the aerodynamic problems caused by dirty air. They caught a slower car but couldn't get close enough. In the British GP they were suddenly able to run alongside a slower car which, even if they couldn't quite pass, caused the other driver to make a mistake allowing a pass on the next corner. I'm not surprised by these mistakes as the current drivers are not used to someone trying to come past.
I agree with Max - it seemed that a number of drivers suddenly realised they could get close and overtake. I'll be really annoyed if they go back to the status quo.
Cheers
