Williams confirms Budweiser - Double Standards?

Double Standards in advertsing
If Formula one cars advertising cigarettes is bad and being banned/forced out of F1 then surely beer advertising on cars could promote drink driving and the same should apply?
It has been around for a long time and very strongly covered in the USA based Nascar/CART/IRL series with no problems, but then they haven't banned cigarette advertising either.
(Please note I have no problem having both for sponsorship/advertising on cars and think the banning is ridiculous)

The BMW WilliamsF1 Team has announced a five-and-a-half year deal with US company Anheuser Busch that will see the Budweiser beer brand become an official sponsor of the team.
The team will run with branding above the drivers' name on the airbox of the WilliamsF1 BMW FW25 as well as on Juan Pablo Montoya's and Ralf Schumacher's race suits from this weekend's British Grand Prix onwards. The team declined to disclose any financial details but the deal is believed to be worth something in the rejoin of £50 million. The team sees the deal as good way to tap further into the US market, which it feels F1 is only beginning to scratch the surface of.
“It's significant that it's an American sponsor because F1 is not yet fully established in the USA,” said team principal Frank Williams, “despite the best efforts of our promoter Bernie Ecclestone. We are anxious to be far more visible and this is a step towards that aim.
The deal is said to have come together in just two months, and rumours in the German press suggested that WilliamsF1 had beaten Ferrari to the deal. “Figures I won't mention,” said Williams. “It's a business deal which is very useful to us in our aim of winning the world championship. All I will say is that Budweiser have been very generous. We learnt that they were looking at F1 and our marketing department was very adept at persuading Tony to run with us.”
Tony Ponturo, VP global media and sponsorship marketing, Anheuser Busch Company said: “We are very excited to be a part of F1, and more importantly with the BMW WilliamsF1 Team. F1 is a place we needed to be. We have a strong base in the US, but this gives us a year-in, year-out reach around the world in expanding our business.”

I would'nt worry.
Its not real beer.
Anything which lists "rice" as an ingredient rather then malt is not beer IMO
9Rice is there purely to allow fermentation. it does nothign for the flavour at all. Ever had a Bud served at 20 degrees C?? try it. Ugh!
Not Bedweiser Budvar. Now THAT's a beer!!

I don't drink that cr&p anyway. Budvar yep, but I like a nice chilled bottle of MGD or sometimes forced into a Grolsch.
If I'm ever given a bottle in a pub/bar/club that's not chilled or in a glass that's warm it goes right back pdq.
As Williams beat Ferrari to the deal, Ferrari could get sponsorship from Resolve or Alka Seltzer!
I hear Bernie is going to get sponsorship from Theakstons "Old Peculiar"!!
News that the Archbishop of Canterbury's new racing team will be sponsored by "Bishops Finger" has yet to be confirmed.

[relativelysensiblemode]Cigarettes increase the likelihood of illness and early death when taking according to the manufacturer's recommended dose (ie. any at all) Beer does not have negative effects if used by adults in sensible amounts-so I do not see that advertising smoking in sport equates to advertising beer in sport.[/relativelysensiblemode]
Budweiser (US)
Budweiser (CZ)
Budweiser (US)
Budweiser (CZ)
Just seen the first advert for Budweiser saying they are "The official sponsor of the BMW WIlliams Team"
With some lovely stock film of both cars being driven around the Paul Ricard circuit plastered with HP, Allianz, BMW, BUT NO BUDWEISER!!!!!!!!!
Laugh? I nearly dropped my Miller.
