Sad Rally News - Mark Lovell and Roger Freeman

Former British Rally Champions Mark Lovell and his navigator Roger Freeman have both been killed in a first-stage accident on the latest round of the SCCA ProRally Championship in the United States.
The pair's Subaru USA-backed Impreza left the road just after the start of the first test of the Oregon Trail Rally. Reports suggest that their car struck a tree before landing in a ditch at the other side of the road. On-side medical staff were quickly on the scene, but Lovell and Freeman had both died instantly.
The crew's partnership stretched back 20 years. They won the British Open crown in a works Ford RS200 in 1986 and followed that up with the Irish Tarmac title in 1987. After various spells together, they had only recently rejoined their partnership, as part of Subaru's well-supported campaign in the top American championship.

Bugger i Met Mark once at croft when he was part of the andrews heat for hire team with russel brooks in a sierra cosworth. It was back in the days when croft was still a rally cross circuit. I was taken out on the track by russel and mark and had a quick go in marks car ( stumpy is far to short to drive his)
Mark seemed like a really nice chap and i was pleased to see him back winning again.
Very sad news. what with posum bourne as well its been a bad year for the rally boys..

Sad to hear the news about a rallying "old boy". Remember seeing him have to give up the lead on "team orders" many years back. Broke his heart, at not winning the rally, threw a wobbly and disappeared from the British rally scene, presumably because of that. Always wondered what had happened to him. 'Tis becoming a sad year indeed.
