Prangs abounded. Peninsula TVR head-butted the barrier which prompted them to stop the race. CDL's fuel pump gave up, Eclipse biffed the tyre wall. Lots of damage I'm afraid. Also, very confusing trying to work out what the order was after the re-start. All exciting stuff though. Noticed the Vette took a rear end bash into a barrier on Saturday too - a real pity. Why do they just have grass rather than kitty litter at C Combe, unlike other tracks? Surely kitty litter would lessen the chance of so much damage?

The race was not a classic, but a great result for RSS, TVR and John Guest. The VW Golf had a good run and also led the GT class.

Combe is primarilly a club circiut that hosts the F3/GT package once a year. To add gravel traps on the corners would push the spectators away, not something a club circuit wants, not only that, adding traps to the outside would impact the whole atmosphere of the place aswell.

Sorry?

so us lesser mortals (ie. Clubman races) don't want gravel traps and would preffer to get out cars smashed up on solid banks etc?

How exactly is adding a gravel trap going to "impact the whole atmosphere"?

It would impact the atmosphere because if there's a gravel trap, the spectators will be pushed back, like the man (dog?) said. A step towards Silverstone syndrome.

Everyone knows that's what it's like at Combe. Rather like the 'Ring (okay, this is the only similarity...), you sort of know that if you go off there it could be big. I wouldn't like to see the spectator areas pushed back to install gravel traps - that's what makes the place so special in this modern era of sanitised circuits.

Combe could do with a bit of something extra in terms of tyre barriers, though. Piers didn't go off quickly at all (he was cruising because he thought he had a puncture), but it's made quite a mess of the car. Bugger.

No disrespect to clubbie racers meant, but last weekend saw possibly the quickest series' to visit the circuit, if the organisers/championships had a problem something would be done I'm sure of it. However, Combe is a privately owned concern, If it wasn't safe the MSA wouldn#t issue a licence for the track.

Not arguing, but why would this be so? I would have thought gravel outside the corners instead of the existing amount of grass run off would be better than none at all? Rich...
