Round 2 - Any good?
Discussion
Shane Lynch made an excellent start again and it was surprising to see him taking the agricultural route through Russell (didn't know about the Tuscan's gremlins) and a shame he had to stop to clean out the grass, incurring a pitlane speed penalty. Otherwise a good drive by him and Piers Johnson.
The Moslers were in a class of their own, particularly Jamie Derbyshire's charge from the back of the grid and Shorty's tireless attempt to catch up with Balfe.

The field was fairly depleated by the end, which took the shine off the race.
The Viper was amusingly slow through the corners, allowing the more nimbler cars to sneak past before storming away on the straights.
Ted, was that your car I noticed sneaking out before the end of the race?

Yeah - I was suitably impressed with how Shane pulled back the time lost due to the 2 unscheduled stops. Unfortunate that the Ultima ran out of fuel, but good for Eclipse! Was watching the tail end of Shane's run with his dad, who helpfully kept me up to speed on the progress in terms of time gained per lap (I'm no good at judging that sort of thing!). Piers held up the second hour really well also. It was just a shame that he never managed to get past the Mosler to cut down that 2 lap gap.
The Moslers are definitely a force to be reckoned with. The sprints at Knockhill should prove interesting though as the TVRs seem to be edging a bit nearer and rising to the challenge.
Ro.
According to DSC the Ultima retired with gearbox problems (it was suffering with them earlier in the weekend) I think it stopped too early to have run out of fuel (about 45min i recall)
Sorry - Shane's dad assumed it had run out of fuel so I blame him! It just crawled off coming into the Esses. Wasn't obvious what was wrong really. Unlike the Marcos which had smoke billowing out from under it as it came past!

The GTs were entertainingish but I just couldn't get into it so I went to the pub
I ummed and ahhed about going, partly because the weather mid morning looked like it was going to take a turn for the worse, as it was I ended down at the pub too. Had a sneaking feeling from the lack of response Sunday/Monday that, from the GT POV at least, I saved £20.
I dispair saying that, coming from someone who normally enjoys going to the track, but if I want to watch processional racing with a decreasing grid I'll watch and fall asleep in front of F1, as I did before going off to the pub before Sundays race finished.
BTCC from Mondello looked entertaining in the wet from thje live bits I saw on Motors TV on Monday though.
Are GT's the pinnacle of sport car racing or not, I really hope grids and close racing improve over the season. If it cannot hold the enthuiasts attention the sport is looking at some serious problems as it all becomes a vicious circle.
