GT Round 1

Seventy five minutes and then pipped at the post!

This weekend saw the 2003 season get off the ground - time for the talking to stop and the racing to start.

At the front of the pack, it was a fantastic battle between the Moslers and the Eclipse TVR. Shane Lynch drove a stunning first stint in the orange T400R clawing his way past both of the mighty Moslers despite no power advantage. It was thrilling to watch and brought much pleasure to the huge number of TVR fans present. Quick pitstops ensured the front three cars stayed in touch with the TVR only falling away towards the end of the race.

After seventy five minutes of racing it proved an incredible finish. Back markers were to once again prove obstacles - not knowing which way to turn to avoid the huge Moslers. Just as Rob Barff looked like securing a well deserved victory, first the Viper then the Corvette played into the hands of Balfe letting him sneak past whislt they attempted to move out of the way.  Barff was pipped at the post and Balfe took the win by just 0.1 of a second!

The two other TVRs in the race both acredited themselves well with the CDL T400R doing particularly well after a flailing propshaft shredded many of the hydraulics the day before. The team did a fantastic job rebuilding the car overnight and Gareth Evans and Steve Hyde brought it home in fourth place ahead of the Hartshorne/Mundy TVR.

Further down the field the racing wasn't as close and the field was strung out. Patrick Pearce and Matt Griffin drove a sensible race to nab the GT Cup class. The Lotus Elise suffered mechanical failure after 33 minutes whilst the Ultima - although very quick - failed to make it past three minutes of racing.

Great racing is promised between the TVRs and the Moslers whilst the rest of the field will need to settle into the rhythm before any close battles can be expected.

wasnt it the Viper which got in the way and changed the leaders around?

Yes, it was! The Moslers went either side of Annie Templeton through the Craners (Hair raising stuff at the best of times!)
The Corvette got in the way right on the last corner as it was stranded because it had run out of fuel.
