Shame to see Eddie Irvine's not going to be in F1 this season. I know he could be an arrogant loudmouth and could hardly be classed as one of the all time greats but he was far from bad and at least made the effort to give a bit of life and colour to the sport. All we'll have now is a bunch of PR brainwashed automons spouting corporate speak at every opportunity.

I think also that the rule changes could have suited his style far better than many others.

Yes it is a shame, last of the "proper" F1 drivers in the James Hunt mould. Cars, beer, women, yachts, women etc. and a pretty good driver when he could be bothered

good ridannace to the little gobshite!
could have been world champion the year schumacher broke his leg, just needed to win in japan but blew it. never rated him that highly and if he drove with the commitment he berated every other driver he could have been fantastic. he was a good sportscar driver granted, but wont be that sadly missed by those at pablo towers!

Amd could have been world champion if ferrari hadn't "forgotten" to get all four tires ready at a pit stop. Funny how these things never happen to their strat driver, Michael.

You miss my point Pablo.

I totally agree with your sentiments regarding squandered chances/gobshite and all that but the world is in danger of becoming full of dull people and we need the occasional character to liven things up a bit. In the last couple of years, only three F1 drivers have appeared on They Think it’s All Over and who was it that gave us the biggest laugh? – Eddie! Dear old Jense and Dave might as well been at a wake!

I know this should not be the defining edges of a good driver but occasionally we have to give way to something else and look for a bit of entertainment.

Barrichelo once said of Irvine that “he was too old”, to which Irvine replied “I may be old but I’ll never be that ugly”

That’s what I’ll miss.
