I saw a programme on Meridian TV yesterday, showing this Sprint event along Brighton sea front.

I have never heard of it before, but they showed some amazing cars- road legal dragsters, Andy Jenkinson in his Orange DB4 racing car, bikes.

It looked amazing, especially as people could look on from the sides.

Does anybody know anything about it?? Does it happen often? How can I have a go???

I'd love to go and have a go. Maybe Pistonheads could hold their own version along the Brighton sea front.

The WSCC did a Sprint at the Blackpool pier, don't know if they've moved down south!

Sounds like fun if you ask me!

Sounds like the Brighton Speed Trials, which are held early in September. IIRC it's Britain's oldest regularly held motor racing event.

I haven't been for a good few years, but the pit access and views from the prom were always very good.

..and if you head down there most nights, you'll find the Max Power boys drag racing in between visits fom local plod.

Last time I was down there, I spotted an ambulance pulling away from a scene that included two plodmobiles, two highly-textured, maxxed cars, and a LOT of tyre marks...

Doesn't suprise me in the least, they see the 'big boys' playing (with safety gear and helmets etc) and want to join in but they can't play with the big boys because they know they'll be humiliated so they do it under there own esteem and make a complete balls up of it!

Then they give 17-21yr old blokes a bad name and insurance policy's that go through the roof so for me driving in an 'old mans' car and racing PROPERLY at weekends my insurance will be astronomical!

To enter the Brighton Speed Trials I think you need an 'A' licence, (used to anyway). I understand that the event is regarded as too dangerous for a 'National B'.
Am I correct?
