Panasport Wheels: "For Racing Purpose Only"?
Discussion

I sometimes see used wheels for sale.
I would like to fit them to my road car.
Is it legal?
Is it advisable?
FMI, why are they "For Racing Purpose Only".
Thanks
Suspect they are " racing use only" so that they can claim they are the highest quality but not submit them to have TuV/JWL quality control checks to verify if that is indeed the case.I would like to fit them to my road car.

Perhaps they don't forsee many sales in Europe+Japan

That's an interesting mix of views with no consensus.aka_kerrly said:

Seems plausible that they are not interested in Road sales, so no need for Road certification.

If they are fit for track use then they must be at least as strong as and probably stronger than Road wheels.
I get the idea they might have a lesser lifepan, but that would be dependant on and as a result of how hard a life they have on the track.
Which suggests that if they look OK, no dents or cracks, they probably are OK for further use, on track or on road.
It would be nice to know Panasport's reasons for the labelling - I forgot to mention that I have emailed them previously, but no reply.
I think I will ask my Insurance Company and see if they have any technical knowledge about this issue.
I am expecting their Insurance response will be an unthinking "no, you can't use them".
I'll let you know how i get on.

I checked this issue with my insurance company. It was not something they had come across before. They took a whild to think about it and in the end came back with this messge from the underwriters. "Erring on the side of caution we would need proof that the wheels are legal for UK road use". Pretty much what I expected and I can't complain.

"For Racing Use Only", or "Not For Road Use" on a component is less likely to be about the strength and fit for purpose, and more about the testing and certification that the item has been subjected to.

You don't (hopefully) deliberately ride kerbs without slowing down on the road.
Racetrack kerbs are honestly generally tame compared to what road cars are expected to take 24/7mat205125 said:
Surprising all these race teams waste money on their stronger wheels, when road car stuff is so superior
Because road cars just make the material thicker and heavier because their lifetime is so much longer. You need strong materials when you're making them thinner and lighter...
Impact forces on tracks are generally far below what road cars are expected to put up with for years.
