I am trying to hunt down an old pic of me racing in MG Midgets in 2005 at Oulton Park, it was a picture used in the Motorsport News report of the race.

Does anyone know if Motorsport News has an archive, or decent places to find old pics used - have tried motorsportimages but nothing on there. I would have thought it would be in the LAT archives, but that looks to be motorsportimages now and not sure what happened to the archive once Haymarket sold it.

Try asking on the Autosport Nostalgia forum, a wealth of knowledge over there.

As well as those already mentioned, regular snappers contracted to Autosport would include Mick Walker, Steve Jones, Gary Hawkins and Rachel Bourne. Autosport and Motorsport News usually shared photographers and journalists, so who shot for one is likely to have shot the other. You're after the copies published 6 or 7 July.

Peter Scherer is a journalist writing race reports for Autosport, then and now, and may be able to identiy his counterpart - although the journalist and photog don''t actually need to meet each other.

Back in the day LAT did all the pictures for Hayshed garbage publications, but I would think at a club racing event it would be sent in by a freelance snapper. It literally could be anyone, but if you could find an old copy of the paper the photo should have initials as copyright. MN will have it but good luck asking for it or trying tog et them to find it.

Then and (probably) now for the club race reports, Autosport and MN had a number of freelance journalists and photographers on retention. Dates that couldn't be covered by the core team were put out to a wider team who weren't on retainers with a list being circulated - sometimes with a meeting being held at the Autosport show in January to thrash out the calendar.

Of course, that doesn't stop either an accredited photographer or a spectator from submitting photographs of a noteworthy incident - but they'd need to be quick as MN closed for press around midnight on the Sunday, with Autosport following at Monday lunchtime.

There is a very active Oulton Park group on Facebook with lots of former photographers both amatuer and pro contributing. There is a good chance whoever took it will be on there. The group is called Oulton Park Racing.
