Might be numerous things, costs being the main one, BSB did exactly the same, also easier to provide security, attendants etc, plus they can run the Stowe track for bread and butter and still use Wing for meetings etc etc
The paddock is supposedly not big enough by the new wing to hold the BTCC teams and all the support categories. It's not a hard thing to base the support stuff at the old pits and just start them on the new circuit if needed though. super7 said:
And the support race cars would be dwarfed by the circuit size (ie they're too slow!)
Only the juniors and minis are slower than the touring cars. The others (F4, Porsches and Ginetta GT4) are the same laptime or faster.I agree that the package as a whole doesn't work on the GP track though especially with the grid numbers in some of the categories.
After a number of practice race starts this afternoon, Moffat's race engineer commented that his 4.3 second 0-100kph was the best he'd seen in a touring car.
So they're really not that fast.
GB4 racer Chloe Grant drove the Infiniti at Snetterton a few months back and she commented that it was slower than her little GB4.

Yeah, because 0-60 times is the most important metric for a race car. So they're really not that fast.

I think you're completely missing the point, but I'll bow down to your obvious immense knowledge of race car engineering.
The lap times they do are fast for FWD tin tops. Obviously slicks and wings single seaters will be faster. Even little bike engined ones. But I don’t see how that is relevant.A nicely slightly mixed up grid for tomorrow's opener with Butcher taking pole for the 2nd year running here .
Looking forward to watching this on tv ,I don't enjoy spectating at Silverstone much as the run off is so huge , the public are so far from the action .
I do prefer this circuit to Knockhill and Croft too .
