Brands Hatch Help Please.
Discussion
Hello all. I want to introduce my 7 year old stepson to live motorsport (he loves cars nearly as much as football) and I thought a day at Brands would be a good start.
I went years ago (1st A1 GP etc) and my uncle basically drove us in and we sat in camp chairs against the fence right outside the car on the bit between Druids and Graham Hill.
Having not been since is that still allowed/possible and do I need a certain ticket to do so? I’m looking at the GT event on the 1st of may, I’d appreciate any info.

If you go to a club level event, you’ll be able to walk about practically anywhere but the actual track.
Pit lane, paddock etc will be open access, you might even get him into a car or two if you catch the driver/team at the right time.
BRSCC/MSVR/CSCC/750MC/etc

You will see more overtaking and variety in the series mentioned than the GT meeting (and tickets will be cheaper and more space too).Pit lane, paddock etc will be open access, you might even get him into a car or two if you catch the driver/team at the right time.

I competed in one of the support races for the International GT series at Brands last year and watched a few of the other CSCC support races on the bill - more overtaking in one lap than the whole of the GT races!!!

If you do go to Brands take everything you'd take for a windy day at the beach.
Wind break, proper chairs, hot drinks, thick coats, blanket, footstool etc etc.
I've been more times than hot dinners and unless the sun is out and shining directly on you, it gets cold really quick.
If you have a disabled friend you can park in the circuit too which is why my niece gets dragged along a lot

I’d actually quite enjoy it being a bit “campy”
When I went the last time (2007ish) we parked where I mentioned above and actually made breakfast on a camping stove!
So is a general admission ticket and get the early enough to drive to the part of the track I want to be at the idea then?
Next weekend the British Truck Racing Championship are at Brands, supported by Legends, Pickups and the Classic Touring Car Racing club which alone has enough exciting sub-series to stage a full race weekend.
I think it will be one of the best meetings you’ll see at Brands all year, trucks obviously being a real assault on the senses, but it will still be very much a clubbie event with good circuit access and an open paddock. Can highly reccomend!

If you go tot eh GT event beware that it might be very busy due tot eh Rossi effect, he is racing now in Gt World Series and has never raced at Brands in his life before, so will attract lots of fans, Brands are marketing the hell out of it to try and get people there, race day will be likely very busy, I would suggest going on the qualifying day, you will see the cars more, and laddo wont be bored watching a long race.
Truck racing ticks the boxes for this one. It is this weekend.
Saturday has plenty of action, but will be quieter. More races on Sunday but will be busier. Not just trucks, classic touring cars (Escorts etc) Pickup trucks, BMWs and Legends.
Anyone can park on Southbank, you may have to pay, just drive to the gate/entrance, turn right, follow roads round. Sometimes signposted for disabled parking, but its not just that.
It will be cold.
Will also be funfair, dodgems, karting etc if the racing action doesn't entertain.
Drop me a PM if you need more info, but would be a good introduction. The trucks are usually very entertaining!
GTWC is a amazing event, but its an adult 'proper' race series on the long loop, he may love it, but Trucks are definitely more kid friendly.

I have to agree that the trucks is a good choice, lots of action and a very family environment. I went to the first ever truck meet in the '80's and that is really what got me into motorsport (I was 7/8 at the time!)
On a note about parking on south bank, the Brands website suggests that there is a cost
"If you wish to park within the Infield area or on the Southbank (the large grassed area opposite Cooper Straight) the charge is £5 per car on Saturday and £10 per car on Sunday.
If you plan on parking on these areas you will need to display a pass. Please click the link to download one"

Chairs , wind break ? Footstool ?? Bloody hell - so you don't move around too much then ? Even for a winter rallycross Up North , I just wear decent waterproofs and an extra jumper. Wind break, proper chairs, hot drinks, thick coats, blanket, footstool etc etc.

For shear entertainment value the Trucks, Pickups, Legends combo is hard to beat.I think it will be one of the best meetings you’ll see at Brands all year, trucks obviously being a real assault on the senses, but it will still be very much a clubbie event with good circuit access and an open paddock.
