Going, wish the warmer weather had held on for another week!
But have to see, shame so many have pulled out, read Breen was possible, McCormack has pulled out due to work, and its a bit of an Escort fest which is a shame.
yeah was going to say looks like a one make championship. But have to see, shame so many have pulled out, read Breen was possible, McCormack has pulled out due to work, and its a bit of an Escort fest which is a shame.

Breen is doing Killarney in an M3 . My money is on Jason Pritchard , would like to see Osian Price in with a shout too but his confidence might be dented after rolling last weekend .But have to see, shame so many have pulled out, read Breen was possible, McCormack has pulled out due to work, and its a bit of an Escort fest which is a shame.

I’ll be there. Mk1 Cortina, car 150. Running it for the owner, built it a few years ago for the 2019 event and have spent the last couple of months rebuilding it for this one.
Looks like it’s going to be chilly!
We're on Crychan - the final stage, so hope to see it there Looks like it’s going to be chilly!

The "Escort Fest" comment above couldn't be more true ,didn't count them but must be well over 2/3 of the entry .
nice to see a SAAB selection of all models ,including a 2 stroke taking up the rear zing zinging away with a trail of blue smoke .
and a 911 0r 2 .
The thing is that the Escort was such a popular rally car in the day, that it probably made up large parts of many events so not surprising it it forms a major part of events like an RAC.nice to see a SAAB selection of all models ,including a 2 stroke taking up the rear zing zinging away with a trail of blue smoke .
and a 911 0r 2 .

You bend a front wing on a escort it’s a hundred quid or so for a new one. It’s about a grand for the Cortina. Plus your so limited on what you can do to it and keep it legal for historic rallying. With an Escort the sky’s pretty much the limit.
If I was building a car to go historic rallying it would be an Escort, they’re tough, simple machines with a huge amount of support
True but they are only immensely popular here, if you watch historics in Europe there are a lot more Fiats, Opels BMW, Porsches, Alfas etc.
I think also the fact this is a true historic event rather than a show like Rallye Legend or the German Spanish ones you get less variety because as others say the Escort is so proven in terms of what works, is available and proven.

Veering off topic a little but Renault Clio 16 valves are surprisingly popular in Italy .
They probably are competitive in a 2.0 litre group A sort of class .
Last time I was there 2 years ago ,went to 2 rallies over 2 weekends and the number of Fiats present was also low .
5 Seicentos and a lovely 128 Coupe on the first rally though .

Exactly! That's why the Rally 'shows' bring in the big names...it's all a bit of fun. The R.A.C. is a proper gruelling 5 day event; I think it's the longest rally in the UK since the 1991 Lombard RAC - that says it all.I think also the fact this is a true historic event rather than a show like Rallye Legend or the German Spanish ones you get less variety because as others say the Escort is so proven in terms of what works, is available and proven.

But the conditions here are different especially on the RAC which is a Forest event, the Escort is just so much better in the Forest, it’s had fifty odd years of continuous development and is better now than it’s ever been.I think also the fact this is a true historic event rather than a show like Rallye Legend or the German Spanish ones you get less variety because as others say the Escort is so proven in terms of what works, is available and proven.
We may see it change over time if we loose the Forests and our events move to Tarmac on closed roads and circuits. Also as the cut off dates for Historics move ever later, up to 1990 from next year, that’s twenty years after the Mk2 ceased production!
Meanwhile Ryan Champion seems to be holding up the Porsche end quite well so far.
