Ignition switches
Discussion
Is it strictly nesasary to have a conventional ignition switch. My race car runs in a road going kit car class, and has a push button starter., so the normal keyed ignition switch is just an expensive ornament, but do I need one to qualify the car as a road going vehivcle and does it have any bearing on the MOT? Am I correct in thinking that a ON/OFF toggle switch would be adequate to turn the ignition on?
Well a cerbera doesnt have an ignition switch just an on and an off button..
There is i think a requiremetn on the sva test that cars have an ignition lock but thats only for new kit cars..
Im sure all the blue book says about ignition swithch is that unless the car is to be used on the road igniton/steering locks should be removed.

i think it would have to be an aircraft style one with a "kill" toggle switch. they are covered with a red plastic handle and when the ignition is on the handle is up, to kill the engine you just push down on the handle and it in turn pushes the switch into the off position. there are a few pictures in the DT catalouge whic should give you an idea what i am babbling about!
I can only use a friends westfield as example but he uses one of the big plastic keys and a kill switch.
obviously, if you dont have a removable key then any scrot can drive off with the car.
Not sure about anything regarding road/mot but for championship regs, Will's car is eligable! You could remove the ignition from the steering column, put it in the centre of dash and use one of the ignition switch syystems I was rambling on about up there! I think you would only then need a sticker showing which was off is.....i'll see you on sunday!!!!
