Critical analysis and discussion of 2021 races and season only please. If you watched a race a couple of years ago and couldn't get into it, your opinion is off-topic and boring smile

After an uneventful first round we've had two very dramatic and entertaining races; although niether reached the most satisfying climax finishing as they did, behind the safety car.

Sam Bird leads the championship, but will his fearless overtaking mean he inevitably gets into one too many incidents somewhere along the way? But the field is also incredibly closely matched, with at least six teams being in genuine contension for wins, the championship is still wide open and impossible to predict.

Two points of frustration:
Rowland got a penalty today for over-use of power - this seems to be completely outside of the drivers' control - surely there must be a better way to enforce this regulation.
How can there be a manhole cover slightly off line that will launch a car off the ground and out of the race?

Seen lots of people moaning on social media about Rowland. At the end of the day it wasn't as though half the field were getting the same penalty so it's down to the way he was driving or the car both of of which are within control of the team.

There are going to be manholes, drains etc on a street course. It's the nature of the beast. Heck we've seen F1 races stopped because of drains on proper race tracks.

They need to sort out their tv coverage. Putting the first race on BBC 2 and the second on Quest is bks, just stick it all on one channel or Youtube.

It's all live on iPlayer as usual. They occasionally show a race on BBC2 but all quali and race sessions are always live on iPlayer.

Need to sort out the marshalling as well. 7 minutes to clear a car stopped by a marshall post with a gap in the wall. Were they on lunch?!

Have to wait until all cars are behind the SC and the recovery vehicles aren't the fastest things in the world driving from where they are. Plus they have to make sure the HV systems aren't damaged and shutdown so the car is safe to handle. Also given the abuse the race director got from "fans" when he restarted a race with a recovery vehicle still partially on the track I expect he is ultra cautious now.

Why are there giant tv screens at the track?

And the power use thing seems weird - if the commentary are correct in that it's a loss of traction spike as they go over a bump it seems a bit stupid? Exactly how does the driver regulate the power, I thought it'd be automatic and he just keeps the throttle pinned?

Anyway fairs fair that was some not bad racing.

If it was as simple as a loss of traction over bumps then 90% of the grid would be getting the same penalty.

At the very least they need to work much harder to publicise it. I missed last season in its entirety because I simply didn't know it was on. I've missed this season too so far. Trailers for F1 are in your face all the time in the days leading up to a race. Formula E could be cancelled and I wouldn't know it had ended.

Fully agree, I forget it’s on most of the time, and when I remember it is on I have to go looking for it.

The series continues to gradually improve. I like the fact that it’s not the ‘ABB Formula E battery anxiety’ championship anymore. I’m sure that has everything to do with how the graphics team and commentators are briefed.

There is clearly a real issue with the combination of circuit design and driving standards. I feel that because the level of performance of the cars is still relatively low, and the cars are very safe, the drivers just don’t seem to exhibit respect for one another nor their discipline. The same accident all the time, the following car gets a quarter of the way alongside on a straight or into a corner and essentially executes a PIT manoeuvre to get past. Alternatively the leading car with a late defensive chop on a straight. This ruins the driver’s race and often with apparently no consequence.

Had another go at watching this. The coverage focuses on the wrong things.
Motormouth goes through the grid and its all out of sync with the picture so right away its confused.
I dont think they even mentioned the pole sitter as they interview other people.
Stupidest car ever inspired by some batman film bounces round a potholed street circuit and inevitably crashes ruining the climax of this race
and many others.
Its not F1 so stop it please. Just get some compliant suspension and bodywork that isnt over complicated and wont be spread all over the street every race.
Worst of all is all the greenwashing behind it. I bet all approached are put on the spot about their green credentials and go along with it.
Others know how to build a smokescreen for their business and go along with it. Saudis for one.
A pox on it all.
Meanwhile F1 is too stupid or timid to champion what its doing. Running an F1 race faster on half the fuel they previously used is big news.
Dont get me started on the new scam , formula extreme, another pile of ste with that agag geezer involves.
I think patrick head called him either very lucky or very clever.

Rome's changed a bit since I was last there, looks more like Milton Keynes.

An irrelevant old dinosaur who has no idea what he is talking about as regards FE and EE. The world is changing and many are being left behind. It's as simple as that.

Monaco in May will be the full circuit with a few kerb changes and altered harbour chicane after the tunnel exit. https://www.fiaformulae.com/en/news/2021/april/mon...

Double race this weekend, at Valencia, an actual racetrack, not streets.

Is Valencia going to put up walls/screens and TecPro to make the walls close in so the drivers can keep their tunnel vision?

Utter farce! The calculation by the FIA after the safety car was all wrong!

The commentator is trying not to say farce. You can hear him wanting to say it.

Safety car time means an energy reduction, for an EV, that's fair enough in the rules. 5 safety car periods have thrown a curve ball into the rulebook. Are they filming a Drive To Survive type series for this? The stewards room today is going to be interesting hehe

Why is there energy reduction for SC periods? If they removed no energy then it’s the same situation for all, and spices up competition if the SC means more people can push on the restart. Just yet more ammo for people to bash the sport.
