What a shocking waste of perfectly good cars. So much for sustainability.

They are being prepared for re-sale. They will be lease/PCP cars etc that are at the end of their contract and will be auctioned and sold on through the trade.

Already being discussed here.

Basically its a processing centre for cars between when they reach end of lease and when they can be moved to the appropriate auction / sold to main dealers in batches.

Has been for several years and these facilities are quite common and essential when off-fleeting at the volumes some lease companies / hire car companies deal with.

The only thing thats shocking is how bad the BBC reporting is - these cars are not "unwanted", they are being processed through an end of lease / rental processing facility.

OK - fair do's. As said elsewhere, the report seemed to indicate they were just being stashed there out of the market.

Yes, the old RAE Thurleigh as well, which is part of same airfield site as Bedford Autodrome.

To many cars and they keep piling up! A friend of my wife’s has an Evoque lying in her garden since April waiting to be picked up after she told the finance company she was handing it back!

Bruntingthorpe is an interesting example. I first started working there about 14 years ago and it was pretty empty back then, the last time I was there every bit of spare space had a de-fleeted car parked on it.

Same for Rockingham, there’s acres of space at the entry to the site and the number of cars on there had steadily increased until it became easier for them to just store cars than run a motorsport venue.

They might not be unwanted but there’s an awful lot more unused vehicles than there used to be.
