2021 V8 Supercars season
Discussion
There doesn't seem to be many threads on this series, but I plan to watch the 2021 season on superview. For £35 it's definitely worth it to me. Shame they are still limited to 1080p rather than 4k, but I guess that'll come eventually.
Quite a shakeup of not only the grid, but the TV crew too. Mark Larkham being let go is a big loss imo, Riana less so.
Having followed Mclaughlin since he started I'm not sure who I'll be rooting for this season. Be interesting to see how Reynolds gets on at Kelly's, having watched the excellent behind the scenes series, I can completely understand not wanting to work under Barry Ryan though.
Anyone else watch the series? I see the odd comments on here but not as many as I expected for what I think is a brilliant series.

Yep I watch every race, also use the super view platform.
Very rarely get to watch a race live apart from Bathurst that I make a special effort for.
Was always a big lowndes fan and have struggled to get behind anyone else.
I’m a bit worried about the future of the series, can see the v8’s going which would be a shame.

The season starting with the Bathurst 500 helps make up for the loss of the Bathurst 12hrs.
I know what you mean. It's hard to swap allegiance to a different driver isn't it.
I try to like Shane, his car control is amazing, but sometimes I feel he goes just that bit over the line of bump to pass that I can't stick with him.

I'm looking forward to the 2021 season.
Like the OP has said, plenty of moves have went on during the off season so it will be interesting to see how it all pans out.
I will be sticking to YouTube highlights through their official channel which are pretty good and puts other race series to shame.

Looking forward to seeing how Anton De Pasquale performs at DJR. Will Davison will be a good benchmark.
I'm starting to warm to Cam Waters. He's matured quite a lot over the past year couple of years; came across as spoilt brat having been groomed by Ford.
Chaz Mostert will also be there or thereabouts along with Cam and DJR. Hard to look past 888. SVG was been lacking consistency last year.
If they're desperate to keep V8s they I can see them heading towards the revived US Trans-Am series with Camaros and Mustangs.
If they're desperate for manufacturers it'll be some kind of Super-TCR Super GT category involving turbo charged I-4s.

It's going to be interesting what direction the premiere racing series in Oz will take.If they're desperate to keep V8s they I can see them heading towards the revived US Trans-Am series with Camaros and Mustangs.

Looking forward to 2021. I’ll be watching via Superview as always.
Massive SVG fan here. I personally think he is unnecessarily singled out and is just as clean a racer as anyone else in the series. Seemed like his head wasn’t in the game last year but his Bathurst drive proved just what a talent he is.
Also looking forward to DePasquale in the DJR car and Brodie Kostecki at Erebus. Hopefully the team hasn’t completely imploded in the off season.
I think both Reynolds and Heimgartner will go well at Kelly Grove racing this year and Cam Waters too. I think this will be Whincup’s last season.

There are other manufacturers interested in joining the series once the Gen 3 regs begin, 888 and Walkinshaw have both been in talks with new manufacturers, obviously with Covid whether anything still comes from it will remain to be seen. I'm a bit stuck on who to support this year, I'm a big fan of Reynolds, but really don't care about Kelly Racing so that's a tricky combo. Erebus are becoming a st show, the new DJR lineup will be interesting to see to say the least.
The biggest issue this year is the lack of Larko in the pits. It's a piss poor decision from Supercars that shows how out of touch they are with the fans at the moment.

+1I think what impresses me most about SVG is how versatile he is. V8s, GT's, single seaters, drifting, rallying... incredibly talented driver.

This! Jumped in a LMP2 car and was bang on the pace straight away. His versatility is mighty impressive and his general attitude to racing is fantastic IMHO.I think what impresses me most about SVG is how versatile he is. V8s, GT's, single seaters, drifting, rallying... incredibly talented driver.

He explained the race strategy options in a way that was easy to understand yet had obvious massive enthusiasm for it which came across everytime he was on camera. He'll be a loss to the series that's for sure.I am pleased they've kept Skaife and Crompton. They seem to have a good rapport and are extremely knowledgeable about the racing. Skaife with all his experience is very good and explaing a particular car issue or handling trait just from watch a few seconds of inboard footage.

Agreed. He`s on the pace whatever he`s driving. I think what impresses me most about SVG is how versatile he is. V8s, GT's, single seaters, drifting, rallying... incredibly talented driver.
When he's been interviewed you can tell he isn`t comfortable with that side of the job. He`s eloquent enough but gives a `I really aren`t particularly enjoying this` vibe.
I think the series is going to start to struggle now Holden have gone. It has been borderline irrelevant for a couple of years already but if teams move to Camaro bodies then they’re racing a car you can’t buy here.
The new regs might help but there is also a TCR series in Australia and I suspect a few teams will be looking at that as a cheaper option.
The next couple of years will be make or break for Supercars I think.
I’m not sure I’ll bother watching anything except the 2 Bathurst races.
