Thought I'd get this one going, starting off with the news that we'll find out if the Monte will run on Thursday.

Let's see if it gets more comments than last year's thread.........

As for the Monte, well if it does run, it's likely to be a severely shortened event - yet another one. Since last years Monte, all WRC events have been far shorter than they should be; and I'm not a fan of this. I wonder whether they should postpone it - and run it later in the year.

At the moment the choice for at least the first half if the year is shorter events or none at all. I know which one I'll take given that choice

Well I'd go for none at all , WRC rounds are a joke nowadays without making them even shorter . Knock it on the head until we see how this feckin nightmare pans out , then re structure when the time comes . Seems daft that WRC can run but club and national events are vetoed imho .

Surely they can't run an international rally in a country that currently has a 12-hour curfew in place? And with no hospitality likely to be allowed, the all-important corporate schmoozing also falls away.

Problem with the Monte is that if you move it to summer it becomes just another tarmac event...

I have no issue with that greeny, it can often be that anyway depending on the weather.

But would rather that than a ceoncellation.

Three of the Motorsport News/MSVR rounds have been postponed (likely not to run)

Unfortunately, I can see rallying in the UK having a very poor year, yet again.

I'd say you're right; forest events are likely to be the summer/late summer at the earliest......it's a pretty grim outlook for the sport in the UK.

Greensmith doing all the WRC rounds and Suninen/Fourmaux sharing the other rounds for M-Sport. The days of Ogier and Tänak driving for them seem so long ago frown

I'm afraid that it's as good as M-Sport can expect; drivers bringing money/sponsors. Unlike Hyundai & Toyota, they haven't got major backing from the manufacturer.

Yeah I realise it's down to who brings the most money these days, I just think it's sad that M-Sport are reduced to having to battle for 6th place when it was only fairly recently they were getting wins. Perhaps there's some hope with Fourmaux although if he's any good he'll get signed by someone else next year!

The main issue is why don't Ford back them properly? Or why couldn't they get a major sponsor when they won WRC titles a few years ago? The answer is probably an uncomfortable one......which is why none of the main WRC journalists address it.

Don't rate Greensmith at all really, local lad who brings some dough. Lappi was a better choice, would even offer Mikkelsen or Ostberg as guys who could at least get points and bring cash.

It's a shame for a team like M-sport having to resort to someone like Greensmith as lead driver, not only is he not very quick but he comes across as smug prick too! I guess though we have to be happy that the team have entered this season. With all the redundancies they've had to make it wouldn't have surprised me if they had taken a year out to prepare for 2022.

As for the Monte, it shouldn't run with the current on going situation, and I fully expect it not to. It would probably be better if the WRC aimed for a summer start.

Lappi was only driving because he was still being paid by Citroen.

I hadn't realised how many staff had gone from M-Sport till Rich Millener tweeted about it tonight, nearly half frown No wonder they're relying on pay drivers and only running two cars. Hopefully they still have the resources to develop next year's car.

Don't forget they've also lost the works Bentley gig in GT3. That must have hurt. They continue to support the privateer teams but some of those (K-Pax for example) have not yet committed to using a Bentley for 2021 season. Shame.

Had no idea they lot the Bentley gig, I went there a few years ago for an interview, odd place, Malc likes his grass, what is it about these people and their obsession with grass lol!

He has spent millions expanding, so I do hope they keep going, a fabulous enterprise.

A shame, but not a surprise. Wales couldn't back the event for ever - 20 years is a good deal in sports sponsorship. The problem is MSUK have relied on them for so long, that nobody else has shown much interest in backing the event; or if they have, they don't think it's worth the money.

If this was the British GP left off the F1 calendar, there would be an almighty row and campaigns for it's reinstatement....

Rallying in the UK simply doesn't have that influence.....it might be a while before a UK round is seen on the mainland.

True, I don't think the I-Pace series they were involved with runs anymore either? There's the BTCC engine deal (next season?) and the new evaluation centre/test track coming on stream so perhaps things will look more positive eventually. And the WRC driver line-up means they're still visible at that level at minimum cost which should help shift some more Rally2/34/5 cars.
