Mika came across as a bit cold and calculating during his F1 career but clearly he's actually a brilliant guy. That vid he did with James May was excellent.

Saw a lot of this family of Mclaren Canam cars raced in England during the eightes , Such a big car but always sounded beautiful.

Must have felt like driving your Living room around the track.

The way he selects first gear makes my teeth itch.

Big block CanAm cars are brilliant things to drive.

After three races in that car in 1970, Dan Gurney had to give up the drive for contractual reasons. You'll note the "Gurney Bump" on the roll bar; the drive was taken over by Peter Gethin for the rest of the season, and he really did look lost under that roll bar.

A lot of people found Mika hard to like, I did initially, but I was used to Finns from years watching rallying, where they just are that way. Some are exceptionally media savvy like Vatanen, Toivonen and maybe even Juha, but some were very much quieter like Tommi Makinen, Mikkola and the like. Tanak is a bit that way now even. It is mainly the language and their relutance not to make mistakes.

This is why I have no time for Kimi in F1 as he is just a ride, arrogant man, always has been sorry.

What changed for me was seeing the way Mika was with the team, and people he knew, you saw the joy, the emotion and he was apparently a hilarious guy in the team at times, very dry!

And the other thing that switched me on to Mika was that pathetic reporter in the press conference pestering a breaking down Michael about Senna and Mika just telling him to shut up and leave him alone, that was pure class for me and showed the real side of the man.

Mika has always had that dry sense of humour with a twinkle in his eye, post his serious injury in Australia he relaxed a lot and it becamemore obvious.

The Scandinavians i know are all very dry humour and can be very funny, they are very similar to Northern Brits in this respect.

If you enjoy this , try the wonderful videos of US driver Jim Pace . The McLaren M6B and Shadow Can Am cars at Road America are jaw dropping, and what a circuit . Lots on youtube.

Looked like he was really enjoying that.

Tomorrow (28th September) is Mika's 52nd birthday. I know this because it's mine too!

I was going to say exactly the same thing after stumbling on the Pace vids alongside the Mika one. Here he is in a GT40.

Jim sounds a bit like Ricky Bobby but it looks like he knows how to drive.
