Big Crash at Donington
Stalled car results in horrific smash
Discussion
Race reduced to 6 laps to fit in with Eurosport's TV schedule, shortly followed by 10 mins wait before Clio race, again to fit in with TV.
Ben Samuelson was given a 10 sec penalty after the race, maybe it was his fault after all! (I didn't see it, so can't comment)

As someone who helps as part of the TopCats pit crew I can say that everyone at TopCats wishes Rob all the best in getting back on his feet again. It is thought Rob has suffered a fractured Coccyx and a broken toe, though this is still to be confirmed or not as the case may be. Had he not been in such a strong car his injuries may have been much, much worse.
As someone in his debut season in a Tuscan, Rob has had a blinder of a season. Given the tight budget restrictions he had to work with he has done a fantastic job even with the abysmal luck he has suffered.
All the best Rob and look forward to seeing you at the end of season bash !!

It's the first time I've ever seen a chassis twisted like that. Scary stuff.
On the other hand it's yet another tribute to the immense strength of these cars in frontal impacts. Drivers of road going TVRs should take comfort in this (and get full race harness and crash helmet of course )

Well folks,
I'm thinking of packing this rescue lark in as I must be a bad luck charm for poor Rob.
We first met when he got injured at Redgate in the FF last year (the same weekend as the monster Shane Bland GT crash - I was there too).
Guess who was part of the rescue crew who were "on the scene within seconds"? You guessed it - muggins here.
Rob was very concerned about his neck - and rightly so. We took our time getting him out of the car as I recognised him from the FF incident (and he kept reminding me). Sorry to hear about the actual injuries. Rob, I also wish you a speedy recovery. I also hope we never meet again on the track but I would be happy to chew the fat with you in the paddock any time.
The strange thing is - during the extrication, I couldn't stop thinking about Rob's parents. We took them with us from Redgate when we went back to the medical centre last year after the FF incident. All the way through this extrication, I was hoping that they could see that Rob was not seriously injured and that we were just being careful getting him out. My heart goes out to you guys - I don't know how you do it.
Ah well. That's all for now. If anyone does have pictures of the scene, I would be very interested to see them. Please either post them on the web or mail them to be at BRSCCrescue@ntlworld.com
Best regards

Cheers Ted, just wanted to make sure that the pics wouldn’t be offensive to anyone and clear it with you first. I’ve mailed them off to news@pistonheads.com. Take your pick there’s 10 or so.
Cheers
Darren
PS - I only took the camera as I was hoping to see Rob take a podium finish this time round at Donington

Hi Rob
Thanks very much for the kind words. All of us are marshals - trackside, pit/paddock, rescue. We are all just volunteers. We don't expect or want glory or reward but feedback like this from drivers is what makes all the long hours and training worthwhile.
Looking at the car - I don't remember it being as badly damaged as that when I was lying on it. I hope you're not going to say that it was my big behind that did all the damage
Again - wishing you a speedy recovery.
Best regards
