no surprise there, i think we all know that we are unlikely to see any motorsport for quite a few months

I suspect that they're trying to hang on to the Grand Prix, but the words, snowflake, hell, chance, come to mind. My local events at Abingdon have all been postponed.

Having said that, there do seem to be several cures, including Mr Trumps wonder malaria drug that he's buying by the million, but Health and Safety insist that it tested for 10 years first. Its the same rule that means you're sent to prison if you offer someone with a headache an aspirin.

And Trump is stating that USA will be back to normal and open for business by Easter! 3 weeks away.. The man is a moron.

I have a ticket for FE in London (don't judge!).. but now that the "track" is being repurposed as a hospital I'm not at all sure that will happen either... Ahh well, maybe WEC Silverstone may still happen...

Yes, me too. I was going to the FE to judge for myself how good or bad it was. I hadn't bought WEC tickets yet, but as it's scheduled two weeks before Le Mans, I have my doubts about it happening.

No, if there's a race before Le Mans it'll need to be earlier than that, and if the weekend before is scheduled for MotoGP, maybe they could have a 3 or 4 hour race round the Bugatti circuit 3 weeks before the 24 to give the teams some preparation.

ETA - forgot about the bike 24, scrap that idea

My idle speculation calendar hope is for a WEC race to be added to the ELMS weekend at Portimao in October

Well the USA won't be, their skies are still full of airlines moving people around and this will show up their inadequate health system very badly. For them I think it will go on longer than anywhere else.

This is quite a good essay on Trump/ USA by the BBC Washington correspondent I thought:

Well, fortunately for Trump, Sweden are already conducting his experiment for him, by not locking down, whereas their next door neighbour. Norway has locked down. Sweden has 2,500 cases and 44 deaths so far. Norway has 3,000 cases and 14 deaths. Trump just needs watch those two countries and see who has the right approach.

Neither really comparable with the USA, given the population density of Sweden.

Only 3 major cities, their capital only has 1.5m population, and the other 2 combined isn't even a million. Total population only a million or so more than London. Sweden's population social distance by default outside of Stockholm, Gothenberg and Malmo.

USA is in big trouble with coronovirus.....

Sweden is relevant to certain states in the USA. North and South Dakota for instance. They are not much smaller than Sweden, and have a population of only 1.7 million.

New York is in a Corona mess, but the rest of the USA isn't in the same bad shape, so far. Some states like Florida and California might be in the future, some states probably never will be ,because few people visit there, and the people from those states seldom leave.

There will not be a "one size fits all" approach to lockdown in the USA, because applying what might be needed in New York will pointlessly ruin the economy and the lives of people in the Dakotas for no benefit.

No!

Because every thread is caused by Corona. Look the title of this one. The only reason that there is no motorsport in the UK, and F1 is cancelled etc etc is because of Corona. You cannot ignore it and you have to discuss what is happening with it, to try to work out when motorsport will resume.

Then we should be discussing it’s affect on motorsport in the uk, not comparing the policies of the US and Sweden.

So to get this topic back to some form of relevance:

Assuming we do get some motorsport in the UK in autumn (big assumption I know but the deputy medical officer is predicting 6 months (with risk) until life returns to normal), what ONE UK motorsport event would you like to see happen? Eg. British GP, BTCC at Brands, your own club event at a specific circuit etc?

I’m thinking the Birkett Relay, as I’ve never taken part before and if we were only to get one opportunity this season, it might as well be a new experience. However I suspect if it does go ahead it might be a bit over subscribed this year with people trying to get their racing fix.

But not on every single thread. Just do it all in one place. By your argument you can say Williams are in every F1 race so every discussion whether it's McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull etc it's perfectly ok to have several posts all about Williams.

All this what if discussion is meaningless. No-one knows what will happen and when. All the discussions by people who have suddenly become experts on the various strains of coronavirus and how a virus spreads etc is even more meaningless.

Think I’d summarise the potential for any UK motorsport as follows:

July. would take a minor miracle.
August. If we’re “lucky”.
September. Most likely scenario for some sport, with racing through the autumn and up to December.

'Only ' - at the moment I would cherish the chance to see a 'mere ' club race or speed hill climb ! Two Minis racing round a field would be ok by me , because one things for sure , we will enjoy the sport as never before when this horrible thing is behind us
