Wales Rally GB Brenig/Alwen - best spectator spots?
Discussion
Howdo!
Motivated by this year's WRC and keen to continue my 6-year-old's indoctrination I'm thinking of digging out bobble hats and taking to the Welsh forests for the final day of Wales Rally GB and have been browsing the very thorough and informative pdf you can download from here.
It's been a while since I've been to a rally though and I'm conscious we'll probably have to stake it all on one viewing spot and wondered if anyone has any experience of those outlined in the programme as below and can recommend a good one in terms of a sense of speed, proximity that feels exciting but isn't dangerous and a decent 'viewing time' for passing cars. I'll bow to experience of those on here and take tips accordingly but I have some sense of the location and was thinking perhaps Alwen V2 for the first pass then down to Alwen V3 for the second run of the day.
Anyone got any tips or words of wisdom? Pages from the guide as below for reference.
Cheers!

Of the 2 stages, I'd go to Brenig, as it's more open and you'll see more. Alwen is more in the forest though if you prefer that.
If you want to do it properly, then I'd get there the night before and sleep in the car; then you can get in position earlier. Ideally, you want to get your spot before the first safety car comes through.
When they last ran the stages like this 2 years ago (last year they were combined) I arrived at about midnight and it was busy then - and ended up parking on the tarmac road surrounding Llyn Brenig - and had a 20-30 minute walk to the spectating spot.

Cheers and thanks for the tips. 'Doing it properly' is a little more hardcore than I'd envisaged, especially with a 6-year-old in tow but we'll see how it pans out!
Realistically were one to arrive at sparrow's would you have any chance of getting a decent view or will it be total chaos and a hiding to nothing?

Depends if you're fixated on the Final day?
With a 6yo I'd consider Saturday at Sweet Lamb.
Car Park close to the stage, plenty of room, good views (approx 3km visible with a water splash) without having to get their silly early, toilets and food and National and International stages.
Good B&Bs close(ish) by.

More chosen for convenience - Sweet Lamb is, minimum, three and a bit hours for me where as Brenig is less than two. Plus I'm a bit of a snob and prefer the idea of a 'proper' forest and all that!
But keep it coming, am keen to draw on the experience of those more versed in this than me and conscious I don't want to waste the journey/domestic credits/youthful enthusiasm on a doomed mission to a cold hillside!
Cheers!

As others have said Alwen V3 then if your there for the day make your way down to v4 and beyond as you can follow the straight through the forest and see them going at a fair lick over crests, at end of that straight is a nice little technical section.
Had a great time a couple of years back when we went to that stage on the Sunday.
Shame your not getting the support categories passing through as meant lots of extra (and rather nice retro wrc kit) passing through to extend the viewing.
Speed of current wrc cars has to be seen to be believed, tv coverage doesnt capture it compared to when there flying by you live!
