Travelling abroad
Discussion
Afternoon all,
Just after some quick help. Will be travelling to Dijon in a couple of weeks time to compete. Will be going over in a 12ton lorry and staying out in it over the weekend. Will be travelling out from the UK on Wednesday, arriving to the circuit Thursday PM and travelling back Sunday mid-day. Obviously I'm aware of adhering to the driver hour rules, but what are the rules on travelling on french motorways over the weekend? Most commercial lorries are banned on the weekends but it does say that sporting events are exempt. Does this include Motorsport? Don't want plod to pull me on the way back and slap me with an almighty fine!
Any help is much appreciated

Had the exact same questions 18months ago, going through France and into Italy, the response from Bison Fute was;
Dear Mr ***
Thank you for your interest for Bison Futé. I will try to give you the most precise answer as I can.
The transport you have planned concerns as I guess the 12H Imola 2018 scheduled on 24/26 May 2018 in Italy. I suppose the *** Motosport company will race and also will provide a technical assistance to the team you represent.
You don't need any authorisation to drive through France on a Sunday in this specific case. Your truck is allowed to drive even on a week-end, but just during a period of 2 days before or after the event.
French order dated 2 March, 2015, Art.4, 3°a :
"Trucks carrying material and equipment essential for the setting up or removal of economic, sports, cultural, educational or political events organized in accordance with the laws and regulations in force, are allowed to drive on any roads according the French permanent exemptions for vehicles above 7,5 tons with reserve the journey will take place at the latest two days before or after the event."
However, if you have to drive on the other days of the week, you need to follow the common rules for trucks above 7,5 tons.
You could find out more about the exemptions on our website page http://www.bison-fute.gouv.fr/transport-de-marchan...
With my best regards and good luck for the race.
There was also a pdf attached (in French) from the Journal Official de la Reupublique Francaise... dated 11 March 2015 'Texte 4 sur 108' (which might give you the relevant 'rules' if you ever need them).
TL:DR - crack on, not a problem (...unless the rules have changed in the last 18months )
