Wales Rally GB travel advice.
Discussion
A mate and I are heading to wales Rally GB this year for super saturday and the Colwyn bay stage.
We're planning on heading down Friday (4th) after work to arrive in Conwy late sleep then get up for the first stage.
SATURDAY 5 OCTOBER
SS11 Dyfi (1) 08:06
SS12 Myherin (1) 10:08
SS13 Sweet Lamb Hafren (1) 11:02
Regroup in, Newtown 12:40
SS14 Myherin (2) 14:08
SS15 Sweet Lamb Hafren (2) 15:02
SS16 Dyfi (2) 16:19
SS17 Colwyn Bay (Special Stage) 19:08
End of Day Service, Llandudno 19:46
I've been told that Sweet Lamb is the stage to get to. My concern is that I've also been informed that we should get to the car park several hours before the first car.
So leave at 4.30am Arrive at 6am at Dyfi 1 stay until Lunch then drive over to Sweet Lamb Hafren 2 for the 15:02 stage then head to Colwyn bay for the evening?
My next question is if I have a super saturday day pass do I need to by the Colwyn bay pass aswell? Does anyone have any idea on this? The guide seems to hint that you don't but the website is not clear.
Any advice or thoughts would be great from previous travellers!

Definitely arrive early, the car park is the forestry road so everyone parks in single file and the later you arrive the further you have to walk. The hardcore fans arrive the night before and sleep in their cars. The last time I attended I arrived a couple of hours before the first car through but still had a 30 minutes walk to get to the stage. That sounds bad but at the end of the day the last parked car I drove past was a mile and half past where I was parked so they would have had a good 60 minute walk.
I've not been to Sweet Lamb but I believe the parking is a little restricted so turning up in the afternoon you may not get on at all. The stage at Dyfi will be done and dusted by 9am so I would maybe aim to leave then, there's no real point in hanging around until midday.

So after a lot of thinking it was clear to my WRC travel buddy and I that we're going to have to get there early and sit at the stage for the duration of the day.
We've got two options now taking on advice from a few people:
1. Head to Dyfi and stay at dyfi. Arrive at 5am.
STAGE TIMINGS
06:58 Safety Cars
08:06 1st WRC run
12:18 National Safety Car
12:39 National run
15:12 Safety Cars
16:19 2nd WRC run
17:52 Sweeper Car (stage finished)
Leave around 4.45pm to get to Colwyn bay for 7pm - we will more than likely be following the WRC cars back at a guess.
Or:
2. Head to Sweet lamb
STAGE TIMINGS
09:52 Safety Cars
11:02 1st WRC run
13:02 Safety Cars
15:02 2nd WRC run
16:39 National Safety Car
17:01 National run
18:09 Sweeper Car (stage finished)
Leave around 5pm (we will miss the National run cars) and head to Colwyn bay.
Part of us is thinking that missing the National run cars is a mistake. So swinging towards Dyfi instead.
But the type of spectating we'll get at Sweet lamb just sounds so appealing:
" Extensive viewing from Sweet Lamb Bowl.
Cars visible for almost 2 km, approaching on a
fast downhill, crossing the bridge then jumping
into a twisty section and hairpin bend in the bowl,
followed by the water splash and away up the
hill. Excellent viewing also from the top of the car
park as competitors pass close by the footpath
through V1 (against rally route) for 600m."
Is Dyfi still as appealing?
Do we need to stick to the viewing spots or can we walk the woods a bit to find a safe/reasonable spot to see some more hairpins?
Cheers all.

Dyfi is the one if you are intent on getting to Colwyn Bay and parking in time for the evening stage. Yes you can wander in Dyfi especially if you are in position an hour before 1st car. Also I'd advise not sticking around until the bitter end of WRC second run but leave after about the 30th car through as that will cover the WRC and WRC2 that is worth watching. Loads of good spots with long views too, not as good as Sweet lamb perhaps but still a great stage. We've got two options now taking on advice from a few people:

Sweeper car is at 17:15 at Myherin so you'll be finished even earlier! I was going to do Dyfi this year but going to head to Myherin again. One run in the forest and then another up at the wind turbines. We've got two options now taking on advice from a few people:

Taking the girlfriend for the first time and staying in the car the night before.
Also interested. Looking to drive up either late this evening or early tomorrow morning. What's the best stages to see in order? Can we make all of them? We will be finishing at Colwyn Bay.

We stuck to our guns in the end and did as planned.
We left our YHA in Conwy and got to Dyfi after a very fun drive to DYFI car park off the A487. We drove the narrow lane to the top and was thankful we left at 3am to get there for about 4.30am. The most worrying part was that I appeared to be the only numpty in RWD with an auto box down the lane the Marshalls put us on (in the daylight it revealed alot of stones were under the loose mud so crisis averted).
We stood around and had breakfast in the forest making friends on our corner, seeing the first cars at 7am. We stayed for the National cars changing corners inbetween then once seen we headed back to Colwyn Bay.
The stage at Colwyn Bay wasn't too special and we partly wish we tried to get to another stage but live and learn and all that.
Marshalls were all polite who we spoke to, could do with a smaller gap between action but was a great day out. Knackering but awesome.
