wobble Why do Ollie & Jake qualify for first names?

I was there today for qualifying. 5 red flags in the afternoon qualifying, and that was before the rain.

The BTCC cars sounded incredible, the Clios, Genettas and F4’s were really good too. The Porsche cup though, what a bore.

Watched it on the internet.

I commented to the wife.

“I wonder how long before Hamilton smashes another car up on that barrier on the outside of that corner.

30 seconds late. Yep. Spot on. Good job his family have a shed load of cash.

Thoroughly frustrating qualifying session. They need to come up with another solution. Maybe flexible fold down marker boards. Every time the board is folded down then a signal sent to race control to let them know a track limit violation has happened. That way the marker is visible to the driver (unlike a pressure pad) but isn’t dislodged or destroying a car every time the driver makes a slight misjudgement.

So that'll be bmw 1 2 and 3 by the first corner then and watching them drive off into the distance.... great.

Once again Let's see how unfairly they have the advantage in the races.

Whilst I agree it’s highly likely, no Subaru there. Unfortunately this is a rear wheel drive circuit. Some on the calendar suit front drive. It’s swings and roundabouts. I believe the BMW have been hit with a boost reduction (not much). Unfortunately Jelly in the older BMW also takes the same penalty.

Let’s hope it’s a decent few races

Rain is forecast at about 3pm. If it’s anything like yesterday, anything can happen in the race.

Was there yesterday and will be there today thanks to Max Coates (what a great guy he is btw)

The weather certainly changed things up during the latter part of the day and seemingly the forecast is relatively similar for today too which should make things interesting.

I have to agree about Hamilton and pranging his cars... it happens all too often and I really feel for his mechanics sometimes but I suppose if bankrolled by his family then it doesn't really matter

He’s not bankrolled by his family, he is bankrolled by his sponsors.

Nick is actually a very good driver and has really impressed the team. Don’t feel sorry for the mechanics, they all support Nick and are willing him to succeed which we all believe he will. He’s challenged himself by jumping in at a high level and is inexperienced compared to a lot of the field. He has also never been in a team that showed any initiative in bringing him on as a driver until now.

Unfortunately the other half of his problem is that he reads all of the bks online, takes it to heart and beats himself up. I’ve seen people compared him to some of the right tuggers that BTCC has seen in recent years and I can tell you now as someone that’s regularly sat in front of a laptop comparing his data to mine and Tom’s, it is not just grossly unfair, it is outright wrong.

Fair point The Wookie. Maybe people (myself included) will need to give him more time to settle in to his new role and time will tell I suppose.

Sorry if I’m a bit short about it but I see the effect it has on him and we all genuinely believe he has the ability.

Put it this way, he’s a lot better in a lot of ways than I was when I first joined BTCC but I could still score the odd top ten in a bad car because the competition was nowhere near as fierce as it is now.

Like you say, people just need to give him a chance, everyone else in the field has the benefit of relative anonymity while they get up to speed.

Nah not short at all don’t worry, like others I maybe was a bit quick to judge.

He’s infinitely better than me at driving that’s for sure

Sorry wookie not trying to be disrespectful to him but undoubtedly his name does help bankroll his racing. Not his fault he cant help who he is related to but to say his family isn’t helping financially is naive. If not directly then indirectly.

I have the upmost respect for what he has achieved. But I would say he has more accidents than most. I feel that sometimes he’s just trying to prove himself too much driving at 11/10ths when in reality he would do better driving at 9/10ths where possible and finishing rather than having another smash.

I admit certainly some of the crashes he’s had weren’t his fault.

Anyway good luck to all the guys today. Here’s hoping for some great racing. The only dilemma is BTCC or Le Mans. (We have 2 TV set up in the living room, a third for BSB would be a little too much. Now where’s the laptop)
