Virtual Gordon Murray -One Formula- Exhibition
Discussion
As some of you may or may not be aware Gordon Murray has recently launched a book chronicling his 50 year (now 51) career in design. Its an impressive tome running to a two volume set and nearly 1000 pages and costs £225. The book is available here https://oneformulagordonmurray.com/en/
In November 2017 he pulled together an exhibition of over 40 of his cars from his beginnings in South Africa, through his years at Brabham, McLaren both Formula One and the F1 road and race cars right up to the present day with the new TVR Griffith, his 'Ox to Africa,'flat pack' truck and his disruptive iStream technology.
It was a 7 day private show for invitees only and is a collection of cars unlikely to be seen again.
I was fortunate to be commissioned to create a 'Virtual tour' of the space and since the book has now been launched I can share the space.
It can be viewed on a PC or tablet and if you click on the VR icon in the bottom right of the tour you can also view it with a Google cardboard HMD.
You move by clicking on the white circles on the ground and you can also sit in some of the cars. The little coloured circles you see dotted around also include larger images of the information cards and images.
I hope you enjoy having a 'virtual' look around such a special collection by clicking on the link below.

Big shame this seems to have just been an elitist piss up rather than opening the exhibition to more Motorsport fans. The virtual tour looks brilliant.
To be fair it was held in a location that isn't intended to be open to the general public and a couple of the final nights were given to a local charity to raise funds but I don't think they did a particularly good job of publicising it. Gordon attended all nights and was very accommodating and gave a lot of his time to everyoneanonymous said:

Thanks, I've sorted that now.If you go back and attempt to enter the car from the point I've marked now you'll be able to get in.

FYI - There were days for schools and college/uni students.
..and I'm not an elitist piss up.

Ah yes I forgot about the student sessions...and I'm not an elitist piss up.

Thing is Gordon Murray is not 'elitist' far from it, he's been a automotive hero of mine since the Brabham days and while he is justifiably proud of his heritage he's very humble bloke who introduced himself to me (he needed no introduction) and then kept apologising for interrupting me while I was scanning.
They say never meet your heroes but this one really is a lovely guy.

No, I was there on the 'friends & family' night. (A lot of VERY pissed people!)
Ah right, I mingled that night, I was helping on cloakroom duties after having scanned the 'Gordon's Garage' area.We haven't shared that one yet.
PS Great shots by the way

Great shame this wasn’t on a semi long term display at somewhere
Iike Gaydon or Coventry transport museums.
The cars are not owned by GM - they were lent by people such as Bernie Ecclestone (who insured them all), so sadly, there was no way it could go on for a long time.Iike Gaydon or Coventry transport museums.
ETA... he did have a bunch of his own collection there - which will be on show at the new GM Design factory (when it opens).

A few more bugs as I go around. Click on the poster on the wall behind the Midas and you get into the Midas. Click on the marker next to the info card on the LCC Lightning and nothing happens. If you go back and attempt to enter the car from the point I've marked now you'll be able to get in.

Thanks for your input, sorted those two issues, not sure about the first one as it was a bit of an anomaly so just changed the position and the link it now works.(Chrome on MacOS).
LCC was just missing as you suggested.
I hope you enjoyed the tour, definitely some interesting stuff in there.

I only had a quick tour - I’ll do a longer visit later and make a few more notes if that’s useful?
It is interesting how things go in cycles - I was using QuickTime VR back in the 1999/2000 but it all rather died out in the end.
