We have just got another car to transfer all the cage/suspension etc onto. Personally I didn't hit anyone but was hit several times
I raced at the first Rockingham 24 hours last year but sold my share in the car straight afterwards due to the poor driving standards. The team i was involved with is now on its second re-shell and it has only done 3 x 24 hour races and the Croft meeting earlier this year.
What I find amazing is, why would anyone in their right mind, allow novice drivers to compete in a 100 car grid, for 24 hours??
The end of season "Birkett six hour race" hosted by the 750 Motor Club, and having a grid size around 70 cars to start, will not allow novice drivers to compete, so where is the common sense in having 100 cars, many with novice drivers??
In my opinion, that has to be the most expensive cheap form of motorsport ever thought of.
If anyone is looking at "inexpensive endurance racing, then look no further than " The Gaz 116 Trophy"

I agree but i dont think the novices are the problem! At least not all of the time.
I had heard it's a problem up and down the field from people inexperienced in endurance racing- taking risky moves as if it's a sprint race. The 116 trophy looks good, although the races are a bit short...

Too much contact being no.1 reason, although we kept clear of most of it but it hurt our competitiveness. We simply didn't have the time to be repairing the car after each round so we kept out of the way of the more erratic drivers.
But it's not just that.
There were BTCC drivers who treated the rules as guidelines, there were supposedly experienced sprint racers who couldn't get the idea that a late lunge into every corner just isn't necessary in a long race, novices who didn't have a clue what was coming up behind them and chequebook racers buying all the club spares at the start of the weekend then not releasing items they hadn't used to teams that needed them in the race.
We should have realised at Spa, when we were next to a garage of drivers enjoying a beer between stints (necessitating the use of a breathalyser in subsequent events) that some people would treat the series as a bit of a diversion and the rules as something for others to follow. Despite the best efforts of the organisers it never really improved and we decided (after having all 3 cars in the team qualify in the top 10 at Croft last year, only to have the marquee broken into and the cars tampered with - we had a loosened earth strap which caused a misfire costing us 5 laps) to call it a day.
Good idea, but a victim of it's popularity and it's accessibility unfortunately.
Wow, pretty shocking by the sounds of it.
I know it's easy to victimise them, but if the rules aren't being followed it should be the organisers sorting it really - stupid driving should be rewarded with penalties, disqualification etc. Not much they can do about car tampering and drinking mind, awful.
Shame as it sounded like a great series, I followed your build thread as it sounded like a great way to get into racing with meagre budgets.

I follow a lot of the teams on FB and it does seem like the organisers are trying to sort things out. The teams have to provide onboard footage of the stint at each pit stop now for example.
I see the series a lot like arrive and drive karting. Some people think it's a stepping stone to F1 with others thinking it's a great piss up with their mates and the majority of people just wanting to have a bit of fun without getting hurt or spending a fortune.
From what I've seen of repairs being done they are going to have FCY's to clean up all the filler that is going to get knocked off them if they have another round with that much contact.

The organisers are trying to sort it out, but they've been trying for over 2 seasons now, and Silverstone was, as i understand worse than ever.I see the series a lot like arrive and drive karting. We weren't prepared to wait any longer.
Sounds stty Mark.
We raced at Silverstone, it was our first event. Car itself was hit a few times but looks quite tidy. We raced cleanly, managed to get up to 42nd in the finish and had a great time. The organisers are dishing out the fines this time around. I don't know what effect that'll have and there are certainly a few drivers/teams that I wouldn't be upset at going but I think the majority of drivers were pretty sensible, it only takes one to hit you though.
The experience with other racers sounds extremely worrying, especially the car being tampered with. I hope the organisers are on top of it now, I really do.
