How the hell can Goodwood justify trying to charge £39 for live streaming the Members Meeting yesterday?!
What a massive rip-off.
Is it as clear cut as that or is the £39 to become a 'Fellow', (which you need to be to buy a ticket for the MM anyway) which would give you the live stream as an additional perk? What a massive rip-off.
My mate was watching it on Saturday and I know he's a fellow because he joined for the Revival and I wouldn't have thought he would have paid an additional £39 to dip in and out of the footage throughout the day?
(just to add, I think the fact that you have to be a 'fellow' to buy a ticket is a rip off, considering the ticket prices but that's what happens when it's a posh boys club I guess)
I know what the Op means. When other race series are moving away from pay per view (le mans races, IMSA, bathurst for example) they have decidee to charge. Yes we know why: some will pay, but many more will not.
I guess that makes it more exclusive. Which is what they want. Its another form of snobbery really

Having watched the Festival of Speed, and the Revival, plus the Members Meeting last year free on YouTube, I just expected it would be the same again.
I was gobsmacked when it was for 'members only' paying £39 for the privilege. Big mistake.....but not entirely surprising.
Other series/ races provide free to air streaming, mainly on YouTube.....
This is just money grabbing pure and simple.

Cant believe are actually sticking up for this.
Oh wait, this is the British public, so easy to manipulate and take the mick out of.
Why not then, he is a money grabbing SOAB, his event are monstrously expensive, even the FoS is dear now to watch a load of cars being driven usually slowly up a driveway.
I must be wrong, but I was lucky enough to go loads of times when it was proper event, not the "to be seen at" garbage it is now, Revival is even worse. And MM is simply a funding exercise for people who have more money than sense.
Nothing surprises me about the British public anymore, and this is a great example

I understand them charging for it but the amount is out of whack. Yes there is more to the fee than just the video but I expect the majority who used to watch the live YouTube streams aren't interested in any of that.
I got the whole WEC super season for much less and pay about the same for all the motorsport and other shows available on Motor Trend.

Oh do fk off please - I went to the MM (again ) , cost a fortune and loved it. And I am a grown up who watches every type of motorsport from autograss to drag racing and even bangers - and almost certainly have been watching motorsport even longer than you have .
You don't like Goodwood (or just about anything else, from your posts here and elsewhere) I get that , as David Cameron would have said. But some of us do like it , and I'm buggered if I'll take any crap from you simply because our views and taste differ.

And to be honest, I am buggered if I will sit and here and allow people to tell me an event costs a fortune and is amazing. Sorry there has to be a value element to a meeting like this.
Since when has charging 40 quid to stream an event, even remotely reasonable?
90 quid for entry to an event remotely reasonable.
more expensive than just about ANY other motorsport event of the year.
It's your money obviously, if you are happy to overspend and give money to one of the richest people in England so he ALLOWS you to walk around his personal property fine.
but don't expect everyone to roll over, have their belly tickled and be grateful. Some of us have standards and are aware when we are potentially being fleeced.
No dooubt the event was great, the cars are cool, the driving is good, but a value has to be had.

So don't pay for the product that you don't want, don't need, and that nobody is forcing you to buy.Maybe we need to enlist Oscar's help here about knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing ? Obviously, I will spend my brass how I like and no sleep will be lost even if someone thinks I am being duped by an evil Duke . But here's the thing - a day out watching BTCC features a couple of races which may be worth watching , especially if crashes are your thing. The cars aren't identical , but they are not so far off. The support races, on the evidence of my recent visits , have been dull and thin gridded . And , of course . all the cars are identical .It will cost about £55 for a weekend
Goodwood cost me £150 - and I saw on track action for nearly 12 hours on Saturday and 10 hours on Sunday . I saw cars with 2, 4 , 6, 8 10 and 12 cylinders, covering a period from 1903 to the late 80s . I saw cars I would rarely , if ever, see anywhere else, including M1 Procars, Porsche 917s , Fiat S76 and a cornucopia of rare machines from 50s F1 cars to 60s F3 , Zerex Special to 250GTO. I had access to all areas and enjoyed talking to fellow race goers, drivers and various people I know in the racing world. In short . I adored it - and that is the only measure of value which matters to me .
It will soon be the time of year when our gloomy chum rails against the Silverstone Classic - so that is something we can all look forward to . As I get a free ticket to spare , I will repeat an offer I made to him one year to have it on me - all I ask is a couple of quid to my nominated charity. Now that's what I call value ... . .

Not sure I understand all the moaning. Yes, £39 is a bit steep for a stream, but actually that was giving you membership of the GRRC too...after all it’s a members meeting so I get why they are extending the stream to members online...plus let’s be honest, these things cost money to stream, you don’t see other ‘club’ meetings do the same.
As for the ticket prices for Goodwood? I’d quite happily pay that to see some of the rarest cars in the world that in some cases you wait a lifetime to tick off your bucket list.

To be fair, I think there are numerous places you can see thee rare cars, running far quicker than this. But I agree it is a great way to do that, I merely think that at this time of year, its usually very cold, paying that much is a little bit questionable.
But, as I say, if people pay it, they will charge it. Sadly, that sets a precedent for evertone else. The modern world is a very selfish and greedy place I am afraid

Really? Name those numerous places then. Where else have you seen an LMP1 Panoz, a collection of 5 917 Porsche’s, the Senna GTR, gullwing Mercedes etc?The modern world is a very selfish and greedy place I am afraid
Selfish? Oh you mean paying for a service. When did the world become obsessed with getting everything for free.....
I don't know much about Goodwood or the politics, but I've really enjoyed being able to watch good quality coverage of a variety of fascinating races for free on YouTube. Even if it didn't go out live, it's great to have free access to such good content. And I'm chuffed that in this day and age it still exists, whatever Lord March's circumstances I can only be grateful to him that we get three truly petrol-blooded events a year to enjoy.
