Having just watched the race from earlier today on Iplayer I can only say its a poor show.
They seem to have no idea whats going on much of the time.
I gave up waiting for the replay of the crash a few laps from the end as they continued to just show the cars driving slowly.
Skipped forward a bit hoping and then gave up.
The whole thing would be consigned to the dustbin of history if it were not for the fact apparently its the future.

The coverage is always going to be a bit of a compromise as it's a huge undertaking to build a track, wire it up etc in the time they have available. Plenty of times in other categories where they miss something and that's with dedicated circuits and camera positions. It's not always possible to have every camera covering every battle. If two cars go by battling then the camera man will naturally pan to follow those and if a crash happens with the next car he's going to miss it.

We've been a bit spoilt this season with the FE races so far as they have all been belters and this one was a bit dull in comparison.

They have? This "thing" that I just watched was anything but racing. It looked like a typical online multiplayer game footage.

As with anything it's not for everyone but it's impossible to ignore the momentum that FE is building on social media etc.

They are trying to engineer that buzz and excitement in an artificial manner (lying) .
When looking for the race on youtube I saw one of those 'watch with the influencer' videos. Had a few hundred people watching.
Too many rubbish tracks and race long snake of cars which gets boring fast.
Overtaking moves result in damage and full course yellow or race stoppages.
Its all there on screen and no amount of the media trying to bend the truth will help.
The swoopy batman style cars are an insult as the nature of the tracks would suit a stock car body that can take a few dents.
Im interested in the excel centre event next year to see if the whole place smells like the bumpercars at the fun fair but will try to give it a swerve till then now its summer.

+1 on that this years races have been surprisingly good - the new cars are a big improvement, it would be good if they could avoid the Mickey Mouse tracks where they are too hemmed in.

How does the hybrid tech work are the manufacturers all building and developing power units or are these cars just identical spec motors and no innovation allowed?

Coverage matches the racing and the drivers. Second rate.

The only spec part of the powertrain is the battery. The invertor, motor and transmission are designed by each manufacturer.

The influencer stream always gets poor figures as it's only really watched by those who have no access to the proper streams and broadcasts.

The facts are out there on the specialist sites to back up the growth of FE. The really interesting thing for me is the number of youngsters I know via motorsport who are every bit as enthusiastic about it as I was about F1 at their age.

The stock car body idea might improve the sport, if they're forced to race on tight tracks that make contact inevitable why not use something more robust? More importantly; think of all the extra space for logos!

They run the jag e-pace series as support too the fe grid too add the touring car type cars. The gen2 cars are a big step up over the gen1 cars and by and large the tracks have got better aside from Hk which looks too be changing for next year. The variety of different winners of drivers and teams makes a big change from just 3 teams that have won a f1 since the hybrid cars.

I am very tempted too go see the new London gp next year too.

Formula E is still in its infancy.

I've watched a few races and it does have much to commend its efforts and I would say the racing is often better than F1.

Yes, it has shortcomings and the coverage has not yet established a comfortable formula. But, like it or not, it is likely to be the future and F1's self indulgence consumption can't continue forever .

I'm friends with one of the Formula E drivers (naming no names) and he dislikes it quite a bit. The good bit is you get to travel around the world and get paid.

Well on the plus side I guess its one of the only race series where the drivers get an ok wage.

Well I've just seen the latest race from China, not having watched it since the very first one, in 2014 or whenever that was.

Whilst I have to say it is much better than F1 (admittedly these days that's not saying much) the camera work and commentary both leave a little to be desired, and the gimmicks and graphics are obviously designed for a different age group to mine. And what idiot decided to have that prize prat Vernon Not O'Kay fronting it?

And those street circuits are bloody awful!

Having said all that, though, I was pleased to see that the front wings seem to have quite good protection, if their ability to stay in place following quite hard collisions is anything to go by. In F1, you've only got to look at the car in front in a funny way and your race is all but over.

I'm confused, you say that FE is much better than F1 than you follow it up by saying that the FE circuits are awful and then you say that it's good that they are not as fragile as F1 cars and can survive a game of bumper cars. The last two bits (circuits and them driving like they were in a Playstation game) make it st in my eyes. But I'm not 18 any more.

What I meant to say was, it's better than F1, but then so is watching paint dry. But it's not really intended for my age group. (Long time since I was 18.)
