Any recommendations for this scenario: -

My son competes in the Junior Rally (14-17 Years). We have just built a new car for this season including an engine re-build.

I'd like to drive it for a couple of hundred miles on the road before the first event (31st March)

First company I tried - David Auden (rallycar-insurance.co.uk) was a straight up No - I'd need a competition Licence. Told me to try Flux.

Called Flux and all was OK, took out a policy and paid extra for agreed valuation. Few days later I go to fill in the agreed value paperwork and notice it also states I need to send a copy of my competition Licence!

Call them up and it appears it is a condition of the insurance. They apologise it never came up at quote stage and go off to look for something else. Nothing found, full refund given.

For various reasons, I can't apply for my MSA MUK Licence online, so no quick way of getting it for myself.

I need a couple of weeks road cover for a Stage Rally car, the theft cover would give peace of mind for the remaining term.

Any Ideas?

I may just need to get someone else with the Licence to insure it and run it in, but that may create new problems with owner/registered keeper?

Have you tried Reis?

Apparently you can even get it via the comparison websites

What licence do they require? As I would think you can get a non stage licence for road rallys ect. It used to be around £40 for the year.
I would ring them back and ask for clarification what licence they would need.

Thanks Guys.

Insured with REIS

They actually listened to the circumstances. I'm covered for limited road use (1000 miles is the minimum you can pick), It's noted that my son is the one competing (I've to send a copy of his competition Licence, although no cover for him as he is 15).

Agreed value policy, with some tool cover and also trailer cover. Just need to get the car finished and MOT'd now.

Re: requirement for competition licence - it could well be that the requirement is to be a Motorsport UK member?
You can do this for free by registering as a marshal, online, and you should get your membership number straight away.

Could you apply for a non-race license national B (used for sprints and hill climbs) which in theory you could use a rally car for.

They're only about £30 and I don't think they require any sort of medical or test, when i looked at insurance they wanted me to do at least 1 event a year in it, could be an excuse to thrash it around an airfield or up a hill for the day.
