Anyone know what's happened to racedates.com?

Checked on there a few weeks ago, now it's 404....

Just down temporarily or for good?

Any alternatives?

Hmm- it was there last week as I used it . Not now though - so temporary I think.

Was it a dating website for race fans? Sounds like a great idea!

Pretty much.

Like dogging, you get to watch others and see who finishes first...

I hadn't realised but the owner of the site was the journalist Colin Wilson who passed away in February.

But it doesn't really - I am not remotely interested in some pick up racing a some circuit I've never heard of in Argentina and although racedates did cover those, it also told me what was going on down the road ., in relative terms. I keep my ear close to the ground on stuff I always watch , but the odd local hill climb and VSCC event had remained under my radar.

There was a time when even Autocar, let alone MN or Autosport previewed every type of event but now

- Autocar is devoted to testing overpowered SUVs every week

- MN is missing presumed dead I think - or moribund at least ;and

- Autosport is an F1 fanzine for people who watch too much tv

That's a shame, pity he had nobody to hand the reigns to.

It is a shame, was a great little site, and am sure could pick up the reigns, but I suppose it depends on the family etc, they might not even know about it.
