Javelin Sprint Series or TVRCCSC?

Hi all, is anyone here competing in either the Javelin Sprint series or the TVRCC Speed Championship? I'm missing the competitive edge doing trackdays in my Chim, but I don't want to fully race-prep the car so have been looking at these two series.
The Javelin series appeals because it seems to be more free from regulatory waffle, just turn up and take part is the impression which is just what I'm after. However, ~200whp from 4 litres is probably going to leave me in a class that I'll flounder in, and yes 'it's all for fun' and 'it's about taking part' but I've raced karts for years and generally done pretty well so I have to confess that appearing near the bottom of the time sheets is probably going to piss me off eventually.
Of course I stand a much better chance in the TVRCC Speed Championship against similar (and similarly inefficient!) cars, and I'm sure it'll be a good craic with like-minded people, but being under the wing of the MSA means hoops to jump through which I'm really not sure I can be bothered for. Catch tanks, Nomex, cert'd helmet, licence application, TVRCC membership, all sounds like a lot of effort just to fly round a field or up a hill with a bit of timing gear attached. Though I do already run the car on MSA List tyres for trackdays so that is one less thing to do.
Anyone been in a similar position, or can give me an idea for the feel of either series? Cheers

Firstly, whereabouts do you live? I looked briefly at the Javelin Sprint series calendar a while back and there's nothing this way at all (Somerset). Not an option as I'm not trekking hours for a speed event. Suspect that the TVR series calendar is more national, so that's worth checking.

I'm Wiltshire based but not averse to travelling if it's for the right event!itsallyellow said:
Come out and play in the TVR Challenge! There is a full race ready chim for sale at the moment. That way you keep yours nice and get to have loads of fun.

Yes that’s the one. What I would say is that the TVR guys are a great group of people

I run in the javelin sprint series for 2 years 16-17 with my turbo Exocet kit car its a well organised series with a great paddock with a vast range of cars competing. Did lead the 2017 season for 4 rds until I dropped out after rd6 to focus on my nes build for next year.
The main reason I stopped doing it was distance im in south wales and the 400 mile min round trips were tiresome for 10-15mins of track time also with the long jour yes the temptation to do the track day the day before was to tempting with that and accommodation for 2 nights the cost involved was actually more than a club race meeting.

I'd suggest that the Geography is probably the key to it, while the Javelin series is very good value for money to enter if you're 'down south' there's a significant amount of travelling to do, and while its got some good venue's there's a much bigger choice available to the MSA licence holder.
Regulations:- Yes MSA events (that the TVRSCC runs under) are a bit more regulated but once you've jumped through the hoops, most of them aren't repetitive.
You'll be needing a helmet for either - get one that meets the MSA standards.
TVRCC - you'll surely be a member anyway..
Yes you'll need a race suit, a reasonable one isn't expensive and IMHO isn't a bad idea for any competitive track activity..
Catch tank isn't exactly onerous to plumb in either, and again, for the benefit of the other track users you should really have one anyway
Non Race Nat B = complete OnLine/Fill a form in, a few £'s & job done.
So yes there's a little bit more to do and a few extra £'s to spend but once done you've got dozens of events you could enter (not just the TVR series) at some fantastic venue's within a reasonable travelling distance.
You could pick from the TVR series, add a few Gurstons' a few sprints at Coombe a Prescott or 3 maybe a Pembrey etc

Years ago (decades actually!) I used to run my Sunbeam-Lotus in various Sprint Championships via my local motor club, along with a few other guys in the owners club, although all of us were entered via our various local motor clubs.
Used to run at North Weald, Debden, Lydden Hill, Abingdon etc.,etc
Good fun, and I miss those days some times.
