David Morgan. RIP(belatedly)

Sadly passed away a few days ago. I was at the Palace when he had a spot of bother with James Hunt also met him a couple of times and was a thoroughly decent bloke. Probably a better driver than his record suggests.

It is right to acknowledge his death as he was the driver who rocked the establishment to its core when he won the F2 race at Mallory in 1972 .Younger readers might note that back then F2 was seriously important in its own right , and not relegated to support band status . Morgan was one of many decent ,if not outstanding , UK drivers in F3 etc and I remember him watching him win at a very chilly Mallory - beating a who's who of F1 drivers ....
Yep totally agree. The wealth of UK talent in F2/F3 in those days was incredible. You just had to make that final jump into F1 and this tended to depend (as ever) upon sponsorship/character/good fortune/talent.
James Hunt is the guy who ticked all the boxes and did the F1 business but, arguably, there were another half or dozen or so UK drivers who could have done the same job if given the break...
