Just a heads up to anyone off there this weekend. Went friday morning for free practice and dissapointed to see that they have screened off many areas including the outside of the loop and much of the inside too at village and most of the straight that leads to farm curve. They have also put up 2 metre high dunlop hoardings along the top third of the start finish straight opposite the pits so you cannot see the cars enter abbey. This was one of my favourite viewing spots. It,s a real shame because judging by the amount of people there today compared to previous friday practices, i suspect sunday will be really busy. I have bought a weekend advance ticket but will not bother again after this year, it,s like putting 2 fingers up to the paying public, pretty shabby if you ask me.

Still mulling as to whether to go having missed LM this year, but just noticed Motorsport TV appear to be showing the race live.

Based on below & the £50 they want to get in may just watch it at home.

I cannot wait for the Moto GP to go elsewhere, Silverstone is a dull circuit. I guess the only bonus is most stands appear to be open to the public.

I was there today and I too was disappointed. Its true that the place is a dump but it just about holds on to these big events that I have always enjoyed. Its annoying that they will never spend any money on the place. Today they had the buses running around the circuit to get you into the pits and back which was fine when it wasn't too busy, but come tomorrow and Sunday there will be massive queues. They really need a bridge or underpass to the new pits from the opposite side.

The screening off of around the circuit was piss poor, a nightmare if you enjoy taking your camera. Where there wasn't massive sponsorship boards, there was a green mesh, looked ridiculous and st for viewing like Micky Mouse said. That + the ticket prices going up and up every single year by a £5 is starting to take the piss.

Hopefully they will actually open some of the grandstands tomorrow and the racing will make up for it!

Could not agree with this more. The old paddock is so much more accessible. Even now, with the bridge gone and just the tunnel remaining.

I was there today and will be Saturday and Sunday too, but as above am quite disappointed.

It's always been rubbish if you enjoy a bit of camera work, and they seem to insist on making it more difficult with every passing year. The green mesh in particular pisses me right off. I had a couple of good spots last year which are no good now thanks to new fencing/hoardings/mesh.

I didn't bother with the F1 this year, after last year paying extra to get to the inside of the circuit only to find nowhere to take photos. I'm a complete amateur but I have now added an even bigger zoom lens to my kit, and it's my closest circuit, so for this and maybe BTCC I'll keep fighting them for now laugh Having said that, this event is being shortened to 4 hours next year. I bet they'll still charge the same though.

I just a hope a few people read this and don't go.

Sorry but the only way tracks will learn is if people wont go.

IN some ways they wont care, because the tv and series are paying for it in a way, and specs are a pain, you need food, security (WTF for I don't know) and staff.

They would rather we weren't there.

I wasn't coz of the insane ticket price increase for a smaller and lesser series than it has ever been, Nando and Button being there does not make it better you cretinous moronic, take advantage tossers, stop trying it on and trying to make up your f1 money with every crappy event you stage. Just drop F1 and be done with it.

I’m going to this tomorrow, and now hoping it won’t be as bad as it sounds! Couple of quick questions for those in the know:

With the roaming grandstands, is there sufficient capacity that you can wander around the track during the race or do you need to get a seat and sit tight?

Is it worth going early for the pit walk or will it be an almighty scrum with a good chance of being disappointed?

Cheers

There's bags of space in the grandstands, and I'm not finding the viewing as bad as others, if anything it's better than last year when we had the fiasco of the banner at maggots, as for the pitwalk, I'd imagine it'll be packed

I went for a few years on a row, never had any issue finding seats

Until this year when they ramped up the prices and started charging, think stands were free first few years I went, even on race day.

Take it or leave it, my decisions w as easy

I hope you wont be disappointed. Hoardings might still be there, might really ruin the experience.

racing is great, but so much better when you know you haven't had to pay anything to watch it lol!

I was there again today and they have removed quite a lot of screening from the outside of the loop since yesterday, maybe they realised people would be pissed off paying more and seeing less.

Silverstone is an embarassment to UK motorsport. Over rated, over priced, over fenced and with Management's almost insistence on ruining almost any viewing point except those expensive stands with fences and obstructions I won't be returning again any time soon. The food concessions are amongst the the worst at any circuit in the UK and the facilities for basic spectators just an embarassment

The answer to the question of "where best to view at Silverstone?" is, frankly sitting in front of your TV at home.

I went on the Saturday last year and was frankly bored, the sessions were too long and the were so far cars entered int he classes that it was a little dull.
Previous years were pretty good, more entries, better support series.

Even the ELMS paddock was all gated off and you were frowned it if you walked down between the trucks or looked into garages, I just left it was so rubbish.

The best bit was the fanzone, a very good idea and where I spent most time.

It's quite hard to shorten a 4 hour endurance race to anything other than 4 hours.
