Le Mans on Eurosport
Discussion
Solution:
- Mute the sound on Eurosport
- Fire up the PC
- Head to: http://www.radiolemans.co/
- Listen to commentary there = THE ONLY commentary for Le Mans
It's the same people on Radio Le Mans as Eurosport in the main as they swap in and out though isn't it?
In general the commentarty on Le Mans is pretty awful. McNish is a breath of fresh air talking about the cars and what is going on on track rather than ancient history or endlessly bickering about some point no-one cares about.

Is it? I didn't think was the case - certainly wasn't last time I was watching it from home. Mr Kirby certainly has never cropped up on RLM or the charlies who were rabbiting all over qually last night.
Hindy tends to disappear after race build up, so if he is not to your taste, he is not around much during the race. Different pit lane team as well as far as I know.

I have said on several occasions that I am sure Kirby must have some sort of blackmail deal on someone high up at Eurosport, or be a son or something, as he is the most woeful, ill informed, stupid, rude, pointless commentator I have ever heard. He speaks French, so maybe that's why. as Eurosport are blatantly French.
Talk to people who watch cycling and they will say the same.
From a script fine, but he should never, ever be allowed to ad lib.

Is Liz Halliday commentating again this year? Please god someone say no!
She isn't. Carlton never fails to ruin my enjoyment of a race, quite frankly, by the way. At least with cycling they have a bunch of other good commentators now, so you don't always get him.
I don't mind the rest of the Eurosport crew, but I'd still swap between TV and RLM in order to get the benefit of Trusser's insight.
Can’t believe some of the rubbish I’m reading on here. Yes some of their commentating techniques might not be to everyone’s taste but the knowledge of Le Mans and sportscar Racing between the RLM and Eurosport crew along with their contacts within the sport which allows guest commentators is unparalleled in any other form of Motorsport. Can you imagine the f1 crew being able to talk for 24 hours, plus all the practice and qualifying sessions and keep it interesting...I think not.

24 hours is a LONG slot to fill. In general the commentarty on Le Mans is pretty awful. McNish is a breath of fresh air talking about the cars and what is going on on track rather than ancient history or endlessly bickering about some point no-one cares about.
The most I have ever done is 8 consecutive hours. It gets exponentially harder to keep it fresh and interesting as the session goes on.

I appreciate that by why the endless arguments every single year with each one trying to prove they're right and they didn't actually make a mistake? The most I have ever done is 8 consecutive hours. It gets exponentially harder to keep it fresh and interesting as the session goes on.
Sometimes I just have to mute the sound as it's so cringeworthy.
That's fair enough. Know what you mean about McNish - I find him very interesting if a shade intense sometimes.
Toby Moody came up with an interesting point at Shelsley Walsh recently, well relayed an interesting point Allan McNish made. There is a golf club with a lake just on the inside of Mulsanne Corner - and so during the evening all the midges would congregate around there - and you'd leave the pits with a nice clear screen, and then under braking for Mulsanne - *splat splat splat splat* as you went through a cloud of bugs and came out blind!

FIA WEC app. £8.99 for the Le Mans 24h package. Perfect streaming quality.
Live Timing

Why anyone would bother with Eurosport is beyond me.
Because you get all the other sports as well as Le Mans?Live Timing

The Eurosport app gives the ad free no-comms feed. Like other have said - Turn it down (or low so you still get the engine sounds) and pop RLM on the radio.
And the Eurosport player was 99p for 12 months on black Friday.
@Kraken
Can't say I noticed that especially, other than Nick Daman was banging on endlessly about something at the end of last years race. Managed to tune that out as I was meandering around Parc Ferme drooling in the sun
Nick Daman I supect is definitely a bit of a marmite character and his primary interest is F1 so he can jog on anyway. Shea Adam is always great in the pits, Trussers is just a bit of a legend for stats enthusiasts and as mentioned above, RLM are well connected and so get some great mid race guests. Leena Gade was really good last year.

Maybe because in 2015 and 2016 it was perfect and then last year it was terrible with poor connectivity and website issues.Live Timing

I use the Eurosport no commentary feed and it is good enough.
To me even Radio Le Mans commentary is not that good, if you have listened to them at 3am in the morning when they are finding things to talk about. Last year that Geordie bloke wittering on about something for no less than 20 minutes around 6am UK time when he was wrong in the first place. I remember shouting give it a bloody rest.
Shouldn't have to go to those sort of lengths though.
All I ask is that when a car is clearly shown on screen having issues they talk about that rather than arguing about whether a car in 1966 had a 5ft wheelbase or a 5ft 1" wheelbase for 20 minutes.
If I wanted to hear endlessly about past races I'd buy the DVD or use my memory. 99.99% of the time it's not relevant to whats going on on track. By all means if there are multiple slow zones and all the analysis of the incidents has been done but the other year they started on with another historical tangent with two laps to go and a great Aston battle raging. Fortunately one of the other commentators stepped up to the plate and shot them down that time. All too rare though.

Its not technique that is the issueMark Cole and to an even greater extent, Carlton Kirby appear completely incapable of explaining what is happening in front of them, or as is the norm, actually inventing something that simply didn't happen. ie, Priaulxs Ford GT crashing when he put a wheel off in the dirt (quite clearly) only for them to spend an hour telling everyone it was due to rain, when there hadn't been so much as a spit
They have both been doing this job for many years, yet appear utterly clueless
