Does anyone know when shift lights were first used?

No idea but you can see one on this M Schmacher clip form 1992. He doesn't seem to be using it all the time though, quite often changing up before it. You can't see one in the Monaco Senna clips I don't think but could just be off to the side.

Thanks. The only reason for asking is I am seeing shift lights used on various historic formulae when they were almost certainly not used in period. Unless someone knows better

This must really have pissed you off to break your 10 year 2 month silence on here!! That has to be a record, we need to check the lurker thread to be sure though!

However to offer an explanation could it be that people don't want to blow these valuable historic things up thus have a visual aid to help avoid such an instance from occuring?

Yes, I was lucky to be allowed out of the Monastery after 10 years in silence, but to be exact I lurch not lurk.
Previous race car include Lightning FJ, DRW Imp, the Attwood 928 Porsche and a Ginetta G15S - none had shift lights

My money is on the Rabbit!

Anyway, nice history there, need pics though!

May I ask what prompted the thread beyond seeing the shift lights?

Other than for driver safety , I object to modern technology in Historic racing. Before venting my spleen I thought it advisable to check whether or not Colin Chapman first used shift lights and launch control in a Lotus 25!
