Brands Hatch GP Loop Viewing to be restricted
Discussion
I felt sick when I read this first thing as an amateur motorsport photographer and Brands being only 15 mins away this is a nightmare add to that I have spent £200 on a season pass which will get little use now.
Why can they just restrict viewing on the loop for the pain in the ass DTM leave the rest of the season alone was bad enough when they insisted on more fences for the indy circuit now they are ruining the loop.
The one corner they will restrict or fence will be Stirlings my favorite picture spot there is no where else you can get that shot.

The exit of Westfield through dingle dell is another area I fear for.
The worst thing is I was wetting myself with excitement the thought of watching the DTM cars through the spectacular twists of the go loop, now it seems the same cars are responsible of the death of some of the most spectacular views in British motorsport!

I'm very pissed off by this and I knew when they announced the DTM meeting this would happen. The DTM were the ones who demanded lot's of changes on the Indy circuit which have made it worse for the spectator. I don't recall the A1 GP or Superleague series demanding changes and those cars had the potential for much larger shunts. Then look at Goodwood..........
I am actually surprised by this more I think about it
Palmer usually hates paying for series hosting rights, he dumped WSB at Brands when it was still getting massive crowds and rarely has any huge series there that he has to pay big rights for.
So doing all this really does shock me, maybe not even his decision.
And let's face it, DTM is hardly the drawer it was last year, you might get 15000 at best? You will get twice that 3 times a year for BSB

.... how much faster are DTM than Blancpain GT3 cars ?
probably entry / exit of stirlings will be restricted.... not sure about the rest...
Well DTM and GT Open raced at the Hungaroring in 2017.probably entry / exit of stirlings will be restricted.... not sure about the rest...
DTM (Audi RS5 DTM) 1:34.742 - 166.47 kph / 103.44 mph
GT Open (BMW M6 GT3) - 1:42.311 - 154.15 kph / 95.78 mph
So DTM is a reasonable amount faster.

2013 was the last time DTM came to Brands Hatch, and European F3 was attending on the same event.
Pole was very close - 41.193 for the DTM, and 41.098 for the F3 cars. Both doing short stints - fresh tyres, low fuel, covering possibly 10 laps during the session, so probably out lap, 3 laps and an inlap.
Set up for race conditions the margin was wider, In race conditions, the margin was wider, DTM F/L Gary Paffett, 42.124s, 164.856 km/h, with F3 F/L Alex Lynn, 40.845s, 170.018 km/h. Most cars did two pitshops during the 90 odd lap race, so fuelled and tyred for 30 lap stints.
I'm not sure where the speed trap was positioned but during the race, Marco Wittmann's BMW hit 152.50 mph through the speed trap, that is 244km/h. If at finish line there is more time to accelerate before stamping on the brakes for Paddock Hill.
I don't have event data for European F3 cars on the same meeting, but when British F3 raced on the GP loop that same year, the speed over the finish line was 139mph.
Whilst the cars were spectacular, I felt watching that Brands Indy was not the right circuit for them, and whilst the GP loop will allow them to stretch their legs a little, i'm still not sure if Brands is the best circuit in the UK to show them off. Donington?
The Brands fencing has been OK for British GT, BTCC, Blancpain, European Open, Dutch Supercars amongst others.
