I'm currently running Contisport 3's on the Clio. After flat spotting a tyre at Abingdon a few weeks ago, some new tyres are needed. I've been happy with the Contis, but realise there is probably something newer and better out there. Any recommendations gratefully received. Thanks.

Assume that you're looking at 195/50/15 size?? Nothing too amazing in that size (unless you can find some second had AD08s, which are still on the list). We ran Pilot Sport 3s on a race Clio last year, and they were the best of anything else that was tried.

Curious how you flatspotted a tyre?

Spin at 130MPH to nothing all on the black stuff with all wheels locked up?

I have had some shocking mistakes but have never flatspoted a 1c tyre, let alone a 1a.

Spinning causes it or massive lock up. I've done it both ways using Pilot Sport Cups on various 911s.

Thanks for the replies. The tyres are 195/45/16. The lock up happened when my lad was driving, really unusual for him, as he's normally very smooth. You could see the cloud of smoke from the other side of the airfield! He was slowing from around 90mph down to 30mph. The near side front has a patch where about half the tread depth has gone.

I still think Pilot Sport 3s are going to be the best option in that size. Or take a slight gamble on Vredestein Sportrac 5s (they are cheap and I've used them, seem really good and get excellent reviews).

Pilot Sport 3's ordered. Next meeting is at Abingdon on the 10th June. We'll see how they go then.

Recommend that you get quite a few road miles done beforehand.

A bit late to the party but...

I run Michelin PS3s on mine for sprints and hillclimbs. Fabulous things, grippy in both wet and dry and seem to last well. I hadn't noticed any issues with running-in, they seem great from new.

Quick update. First in class at Abingdon last weekend. The lad was really happy with how the tyres felt.

Thanks again for the advice.
