Couldn't find a thread for this years event so here goes.

The 2017 event had a few changes from the previous years in that it ran Friday to Sunday this year with all qualifying now on the Friday and races only on Saturday and Sunday. For once the weather stayed dry which lead to sum great racing thru the day and there was a cracking entry list, tho a few more entries in sum of the races would have been nice.

Anyway here my pics n vid from the Saturdays action:

It's getting so difficult to know if it's worth going to a historic meeting now.
On the basis I have to commit a few weeks before the entry list is published its down to judgement and experience.
Whilst this meeting had some good saloon and sports grids I have wonder why others such as FJunior front engine, Super Tourers, GT for the 1000k race were so poor?
Was it a case of we have done Goodwood MM and will not go out again until Masters?
There is so much historic racing the drivers can pick and choose and so can the paying public.

The meeting was generally good however, although it as sad the paddock was such chaos.
The access roads to the classic car parks were very poor covering cars in dust or road dirt from the watering.

Commentary was disappointing. Motor racing is an exciting sport, shame the race commentary was more news reader style.

I think for the 1000km race on the Saturday, one of the reasons for the small grid could be that the masters series was in Barcelona the weekend before so might not have left enough time to get the cars checked and turned around ready to race again.

As for the Super Touring, it seams that it might be struggling as apart from their stand out meeting of the year at the Silverstone Classic, the others seam to have small entries hence they are opening it up too newer Pre-2006 cars. Which is a pitty as they are one of the races i really look forward to seeing.

Spa is only a couple of weeks away so I think a lot of the cars that would normally make an appearance are being saved for that.

The super tourers did seem down on Saturday but any other time I've seen them racing, even at Oulton the grids have been pretty big so it could just be a one off for this weekend. Good event though I enjoyed it personally, nice to see the 3 cars a mate has helped to build/maintain getting on the podium/winning.
