URm interesting..

Qualifying was quite good i managed 7th which wasnt bad as everyone in front tested the day before and i had no idea where the track went as i'd not been there before.

for the race though it rained and the track was very damp. Now my car is set up with softish back, hard front and no toe in on the font. so i the wet handles like a canal boat !!!!
trying to get it round luffield was a nightmare and whatever line i tried through woodcote i ended up on the grass as the car just wanted to go straight on all the time and as i was loosing so much time through tose to corners i sliped back to 8th.

I was however one of the only cars not to spin.. which with my record is an achievment !!!!

there were a couple of pranges, JB span and JC hit him taking out the front of the car and Stuart Spink span into John Sumner, taking the rear bumper off johns car and the side out of Stuarts..

Stuan had managed to demolish the front of his car on the 3rd lap of practice on friday and was running with an ally front end... he managed to spin both in front of me and behind me !!!!

Cheers
G

mm tricky one that

there is a car for sale an realisticly i think it will go for 10-12k

to build one yourself i reckon 8-16k depending on what you renew and how much of the work you do yourself
( remember you are starting with a 20 year old car)
rough breakdown

car 2000 ( one was bought for 250 and i swapped a landrover for mine)
roll cage 700
engine 2000 ( whould you wnat to race a 100k mile 20 year old engine?)
gbox rebuild 200
suspension 1000
wheels 450
tyres 450
seat 120
harness 130
fire extinguisher 200
instruments 200
wiring 200
fastners 200
welding 250
exhaust plus headers 400
suspension mods 500

and that lot comes to 9k... ( thats replacing everything with new) almost everyone has replaced everything on the original car which is why the budgets expanded from buy the car stick a roll cage some new wheels tyres seat, harness and fire extinguisher 6k jobby.. factor in some labout and the cost go up a bit..

i reckon on average a race costs me 500 quid

so with 10events (12) races thats 6k all in plus a new engine at 2k

so 8k for this year inc all the odds and ends repairs a new engine and some testing. actually thinking about it probably still closer to 6 with the engine.. and i have crashed the car twice this year

silverstone was

140 - entry fee
65 - fuel for van and car
10 - food
8 - beer
35 - oil and filter change ( i do that after every race)

Pembrey was

240 - entry fee ( double header)
120 - fuel
50 - food and beer
2000 - new engine ( failed in qualifying so no racing for me that weekend)

i might just strech a full season out of a set of tyres ( 450) another set would be a good idea especially if i do any testing

i changed front disks and pads at 250 quid on the front. a set of these should last a season ( pads = 80 quid)

i needed a windscreen after hitting tyres at croft - 200 ( plus a neck brace and so far 60 quid on physio)

I think im about middle of the road as reguard to running costs, me and my dad do most of the work with moore racing doing some of it... some do all them selves and some get moore racing to run the cars which adds to the cost i.e a two day meet with a days testing is 750 quid in support costs !!! but then they are a professional team..

on the whole they dont cost much to run and are cheaper than most. they do however cost a bit more to get started, i.e you can buy a race prepped hot hatch for 5k but then thats not a tvr, and the crack with our lot is top eh JB...

if you want to talk more e-mail me

actually i see your not far from me if your interested pop over for a chat or i'll find you a ticket for one of the races

career in motor sport LOL i'll need to learn to drive first...

I think my future lies in Pro-amm series...

i do have an ambition to drive in the 24h an Le Mans though...

i might however end up with somthing to do with running a small team, or somthing in motorsport as a side line...
