Well that's nice. As long as all the race cars don't have to drive to their good boy driver app !!!!!!!!!!!!

I still don't get where the "6000 full time jobs" figure they keep quoting comes from.
Silverstone's LinkedIn page says they are in the 51-200 employee category, and I bet a large proportion of those are part time.
(A quick Google shows that there are 1,200 temp staff used for F1 meetings)
I bet Silverstone doesn't even have 6000 punters on site for more than 4 or 5 days a year.

I don't know why I read that as 300 mile circuit.
Anyway, sounds good. Wait a sec. That's my pension fund money!!
Aviva. Who in 2014 planned "to reduce its annual tax bill by tens of millions of pounds"

So this is avoided tax money.

Love the ideology, but I distrust the spin.
6000 permanent non-service sector jobs, that pay well enough to support a family, have to be taken from somewhere else, because they can't be magicked from thin air (even though every politician is convinced it is easily done with enough public funds).

Problem being not much is public money and there are 80k thousand people not currently working in wales with a lot being where this track is. If it does finally get built it be a huge boost to the local economy.6000 permanent non-service sector jobs, that pay well enough to support a family, have to be taken from somewhere else, because they can't be magicked from thin air (even though every politician is convinced it is easily done with enough public funds).

I still find that a hugely speculative statement as I do not think that it follows that if the circuit gets built then the jobs will definitely be created and endure. Look at where it is on the map - IIRC it is over 2 hours by helicopter from the nearest major international hub airport and forever away by road. As such it simply doesn't follow that the location would ever appeal to industry. So what we are talking about is a large number of spectators to a couple of race weekends per year isn't it? That isn't going to sustain a lot s far as I can see...DiscoColin said:

That isn't going to sustain a lot s far as I can see...For the track to be built will need tradesmen and women to dig the ground, lay the tarmac/builds etc etc huge amount of employment created. Business park will bring in companies if they are cheaper than places elsewhere. Also during big meets ie moto gp btcc/ brit gt for example btcc 20-30k people attend plus all the crews/teams/sponsers etc they all need somewhere to eat/sleep etc, also will help local business with supplying goods to the track.
Track days are a huge business in the country llandow has monthly track days for bike and cars along with karting series when on the local area benefits from fuel being bought, goods being bought and after the events food many people visit pubs for some food after the event.
This can only be a good thing to the local area lets get new developments being built in wales the south east has enough lets make the whole country better not just a small area around London.
There is perhaps a comparisom to the building of the Hoover (Norris) Dam.
That was an experiment with public funds to alleviate economic problems.
I know it did not end the recession but Government always seems to need to seem as though they are doing something. A leisure facility in Wales would be less expensive than HS2.
A sort of better the devil you know.
