OP, I don't know how this potential news has slipped by (unless it's buried in the General Gassing section?). If JLR do go through with it, it could be a bit of a coup as Silverstone needs more investment to make it an all year round venue and it then makes you wonder if they're looking to have an F1 team again?!

JLR are very acquisitive at present and the news comes shortly after word that Aston is looking to possibly move its HQ to Nr Bham so there's some interesting opportunities out there.

It states on the local news JLR have joined the RACE to buy, which would suggest there are a few more than interested parties.

I think a return to endurance racing with an LMP1 team is the stronger rumoured possibility for Jag in the near future. Silverstone would make a good testing ground for a Le Mans car. Don't know how the porsche experience centre @ silverstone would take the news if it did go through!

It all sounds a bit fanciful to me.

Maybe I'm reading into it but it sounds like it was a veiled threat from JLR to Stratford-on-Avon District Council that they didn't want 5000 new homes at Lighthorne Heath. I know JLR were unhappy when it was announced.

Looking at the comments on here http://stratfordobserver.co.uk/news/green-light-gi... it sounds like they were willing to bring forward the Long Marston decision which "wasn't planned until the new year with the express intention of authorising a planning application which had been repeatedly rejected by the full committee and widely opposed by the existing residents of the borough."

The threat of moving the JLR HQ, Test, Hospitality and Heritage (basically everything they do at Gaydon) just sounds like nonsense. The British GP is a poison chalice and Silverstone is in financial difficulty due to hosting the event. Would JLR really subsidise the event? It's also at odds with their actions in moving the SVO & Jaguar heritage workshops to Browns Lane and the Heritage collection to Gaydon. They have a £4m shiny new building opening in February.

Jaguar trade on their sporting pedigree and Le Mans victories but have no works backed race teams other than now some historic stuff. They announced the CX75 would be produced with Williams and would be used for racing only to axe it. An F-type GT3 programe has been rumoured but has failed to be signed off and now they talk about buying Silverstone Race Circuit. Still good to hear JLR are considering developing 5* Hotels a race circuit!?

Porsche have a sizeable Sales and Marketing presence at the circuit with the Driver Experience Centre so I'd imagine they wouldn't be very happy to have them as their landlord.

I will now be proven completely wrong when at the first WEC round in April they will announce a top flight experience centre linked to a full works backed LMP1 effort with the intention of winning Le Mans lol

That would be epic if they joined WEC!

On topic I'm hoping in Bernies will he buys Silverstone and gifts the British GP for fans so it's secure forever. Of course he would rename the BRDC clubhouse to 'Eccelstone clubhouse' wink

Is Silverstone really only worth £23m as that article suggests?

You couldn't lay the tarmac and build the Wing on a new site for that kind of money confused.

That's what I thought. Do you think someone blindfolded the valuers and took them to Lydden?

No Lydden would be more like £23.

I wonder if the price includes a sizeable debt? I would expect it to be much higher.

Looking at their financials, £23m seems about the right sort of price.

Silverstone "The Building Site" has a massive amount more worth than "Silverstone the Racing Track".

Anyone who wants to take the place on needs to be walking in with at least £100m and also the ability to underwrite the BGP.

As for the Wing - It would take the best part of £26m to put what is wrong with it right...

If the late Tom Walkinshaw had still been a mover and shaker in BRDC we would probably be reading that Silverstone was buying Jaguar....

I am not sure how much you know Mr Coppice but from speaking to a number of the people about at that time and after the events I suspect that if Mr W had remained in charge for much longer there would be a lovely new housing estate where the paddock once stood.

No inside info but the general view I have osmosed from the press of the time was that few would have trusted Mr Walkinshaw as far as they could have thrown him. ISTR a massive spat at BRDC re the proposed Silverstone garage franchise which caused Ken Tyrrell to ave the mother of all froth jobs ?

Sounds like the BRDC have voted in favour of moving forward with the JLR bid.

So the Tomlinson bid has been rejected then? That's interesting although from what I read the members didn't really like either bid but you'd have thought Tomlinson with his background in racing would be a safer bet for the future of the circuit. It'll be interesting to see some details and what the fallout if any will be.

Porsche have a lovely facility on that land that would be perfect for JLRs product range.

It looks like this may rumble on for a while.
