Camping at Monza
Discussion
Please - has anyone got any useful info of how to go about camping at Monza for the Italian GP.
I am exploring the possibility of a last minute trip and would travel by plane to Milan and then camp close to the circuit - so we would not have a hire car.
I have spent the last hour or so on the net trying to determine if we can pre-book a site or do we just turn up but not really established concrete knowledge. Some advice has been just to turn up, but I only see evidence of the official Monza site (which is quite small, 35,000 m2) or a pre-erected tent site (which is not what I want). Also there is some undisclosed problem with the official site with some people going this year had their reservations cancelled leaving them in limbo.
So are there many sites (official and private) in and around walking distance to the track ( I realise the circuit park is in an urban area)? Or do we have to camp further afield and use public transport or get a hire car so that we can get to the circuit.
Does anyone have any suggestions of where to camp?
Also I am thinking of getting general admission tickets and not grandstands - I am happy to arrive early to stake a claim on a good viewing space and suggestions for that location also would be useful.
Any advice would be appreciated please

I went last year, by car, but I didn't book accom. There is a large campsite just outside the entrance to the circuit at the Lesmo corner. I arrived on the Thursday and there was plenty of space and is only a short walk from the railway station. You don't say what day you are flying in, but if you can get to that end of the circuit you shouldn't have too many problems. Even if you arrive on a Friday or Saturday, there is another unofficial site 50 yards further out, so just turn up.
What I don't know are the train schedules. During and after the practices and races, the trains stop at the Lesmo station on a fairly regular basis, but I don't know what their frequency is before the Friday practice or on the Monday.
Happy to help you further if needed.

Lesmo site looks brilliant, i wish i knew that was there in 2009 when i went. We camped in the circuit campsite which is right at the side of the track before the first chicane.
Great atmosphere etc in the campsite but pretty crowded by the time we got there on thurs afternoon and new but pretty limited toilet and shower facilities.
Good place if you dont mind a bit of noise and dont mind the limited space. There are no 'plots' as such' its just a case of turn up and claim your own space, you cant book this site. I think it was about 110 euros for 4 nights for 2 of us. Kinda like a cramped noisier version of Houx at Lemans !!
But Monza is just awesome, great atmosphere, i love it.
If you've not got grandstand seats you need to be in there very early, some italians hide and sleep in the woods on saturday night to bag their spaces !!
Have a good one, wish i was going !!

Hi All
I'm going to Monza this year - I'm trying to find any info about campings. I was on Lesmo Camping back in 2010. This year there is no info on official Monza website or in any else place, no map. Maybe anyone knows where I can find info if this year there will or will not be this camping.
Do you know where I could find this information? I would like to go there by camping car, but without any info about camping I find it a bit risky
